The first things to get set in stone before you do anything else: figure out your budget (how much you are willing and able to spend without assistance), your guest list (who are the ride or die people you can’t get married without? Do not invite anyone out of obligation that you are not close to). Don’t just pick a number of people but decide who they actually are. What are 3-5 areas to focus your energy and budget on and cut out the rest? For example, many couples choose a great guest experience that guests will remember long after the wedding is over (good food, drinks they don’t pay for, great dj), and great photos and video for your memories.

Then you can look for venues on Yelp and Instagram. Take advantage of the reviews on Yelp which the vendors cannot have removed, unlike other websites. Decide if you want an all inclusive venue or blank slate. If you are a budget, a blank slate can often be cheaper because you have more flexibility and not all all inclusive venues allow you to choose lower cost vendors or cut out a service that you don’t need. If a venue requires an in house caterer, do not book them before getting a sample because you are locked in the minute you sign the contract.
