So we are getting married in August and taking a honeymoon is a MUST for me (philosophies on time alone to decompress and bond etc.). Here's what I'm looking for: somewhere where we can relax for a couple days, and then be active for a couple days. We can't afford a lot ($3000 max including airfare), and we plan on starting a family within a year, so anywhere with Zika is out (so basically all of South America, Caribbean, and southern US - if it spreads). Soooo, I was thinking west coast, Rockies, or Canada? Anyone have recommendations? (flying out of Wisconsin/Chicago)

If you like wine country and lakes you could go to Kelowna, British Columbia. The entire Okanagan Valley is gorgeous, great weather and there are lots of great hiking areas and vineyards.

If you like mountains, Banff/Jasper area is gorgeous. Banff is a bit touristy, but very cute place to visit. You can go caving in Canmore, hiking in Banff, visit the Columbia Ice fields, horseback ride through the rockies. If you want a place for a romantic dinner, go to Eden at The Rimrock Hotel (absolutely amazing food).

We are going to Palm Springs for a week. Airfare is cheap, no passport is needed (I don't have one), no Zika, warm weather, and tons of gorgeous scenery.

I agree with the Colorado or Utah! Park city is amazing any time of year and there is tons of stuff to do as well.

On the Zika front, we just got back from our honey moon in the Carribbeans about a month ago and literally didn't see a single mosquito while we were there. But that could of been because we doused ourselves in deet and pre-sprayed all our clothes with premethrin

The Canadian dollar is low right now, and it's a gorgeous country - perfect to visit in August/September. I'm also partial to the Rockies and Pacific Northwest.

If you haven't explored it already (I don't know where you are) New England is amazing, and you can move between city and country very easily.

I second Vancouver BC. I have never seen a more beautiful urban city balanced with nature and so clean! I swear people must carry litter bags with them. It's ocean, mountains, green forest and bay with city all rolled into an amazing place.

I live in Vancouver, B.C and I am honeymooning on Vancouver Island...

If you look into coming here there is honestly SO much to do. Lots of great hotels with spas Downtown for relaxation.

    For activities:

-Biking along the seawall at Stanley Park (SO gorgeous)

-Grouse Grind if you're into that sort of thing

    -Capilano suspension bridge

-Lynn Canyon suspension bridge (smaller, but free)

    -Lots of museums

-Whistler is gorgeous and there is lots to do there even in the summer!

    -Botanical gardens

-Zoo, Aquarium, Planetarium, Conservatory (if you're into that sort of thing)

-Great night life in places like Gastown, Yaletown,

-Granville Island, Lonsdale Quay, are so fun to visit during the day and evening

-Spanish Banks, Kitsilano, Jericho Beach, Sunset Beach

    -Amazing restaurants, especially seafood!

It is a great place to start if you want to drive to other places for hiking or sightseeing

    -The Othello tunnels in Hope

    -Garibaldi Lake

    -Joffre Lakes

    Transportation is everywhere

    -Skytrains

    -Sea bus

-Ferries (if you're wanting to go over to Vancouver Island or other islands)

Wow, I never would've suggestion honeymooning in Vancouver to anyone until now lol

I second Trixie! I was just about to recommend Thousand Islands. It's a personal favorite of mine. We typically stay in a more rustic style cabin, but there are plenty of options for nicer accommodations and beaches for relaxing along with some wonderful sight seeing and parks that offer neat trails. I have some great recommendations for secluded beaches and restaurants if you end up going that route.

Cruise to Bermuda! We just got back today and it is an amazing place! It was a 7 night cruise that spent 3 days docked in Bermuda. They don't have mosquitoes so no Zika!

If you want somewhere warm... Tampa Florida! As @nancy said the Zika people here caught it elsewhere. Rent a condo in the beach via VRBO and have a beach at your doorstep and fun restaurants and hiking in fort desoto. You could also rent a car and spend one day at Disney or universal or legoland Smiley smile it's 1 hour 15 mins away from Tampa area!

Recommended places to look for condos on VRBO are Indian rocks beach, Maderia beach, St Pete beach, St. John's pass, Indian shores.

Here is some motivation, white sand beaches Smiley smile

Be aware that you don't have to eliminate all of South America because of Zika. The CDC has excellent maps of areas affected by Zika. malaria, etc. and altitude has a TON to do with which mosquitos exist where. Definitely consult your doctor before you decide. The CDC says, "Based on the available evidence, we think that Zika virus infection in a woman who is not pregnant would not pose a risk for birth defects in future pregnancies after the virus has cleared from her blood." But your doctor could advise you best.
