Inexpensive beach wedding in NJ?

Sara, on November 22, 2016 at 8:19 PM Posted in Planning 0 16

Hi everyone! I am hoping I could get some advice. I am trying to find the best way to have an affordable beach wedding in NJ. FH is in the military and may be getting deployed, so our wedding is in 2020 (for now), but I still want to have a game plan. I want to do this as inexpensive as I can without looking cheap. At the moment I am looking at a venue that offers station catering at $50 per person. Also planning to DIY our centerpieces, BM bouquets and boutonnieres, and aisle decorations which will be pomander balls. Budget at the moment is 10-15 k. Is this an ok start? Thanks everyone!

Based on what I know of NJ 50pp might be pushing it. You can have a higher pp cost but stay under budget by having fewer people.

I would not be worrying about your DIY decor just yet. Have a small ceremony on a public beach then go to a restaurant afterward?

Thank you ladies. Holly I was thinking about that but my mom made the point of our guests not being able to hear our vows, etc due to the noise of the waves. I still think that it would be my best option.

Sarah yeah I have managed to make a rough draft of our guest list and am slowly reducing my guest list ( went from 150 to 80 people so far ). I know I have plenty of time I just want to be prepared Smiley smile

That sounds awfully cheap for the NJ shore in season. And of course, atop that is tax and service (28%).

Yes I assumed I would be spending a pretty good deal of money, and when I started looking I found one venue that offered station catering $50 pp and a restaurant starting at $11 a person. I feel like it is probably too good to be true.

I have been going through it. FH dad is one of 13 kids, his mom is one of 8 and my mom is one of 7 so we have a large family together. And we are keeping it child free as well to cut it down

I'm getting married at the wildwood golf and country club in Cape May Court House and our wedding (with beer and wine) for 50 is under your desired price. I would check it out!

If you're looking for a smaller Cape May wedding you could also try the lobster house. They just built a nice covered deck area for weddings and it's pretty affordable for a reception. You could get married on poverty beach for the cost of a permit then go anywhere nearby for a reception Smiley smile

That's what I was thinking of doing. I had found a restaurant that had station catering for $11 a person and bar was $10 a person. Hopefully it works out Smiley smile Thanks for all your help

Where did you find cheaper places?

If you found some place that cheap, I would inspect it a bit closer. See if you can do a tasting or something. I'm in NJ and the cheapest I found was $100 pp and the place was having an open house. It was run down and the food was gross, so I would be suspicious. If you dig deeper and are happy with it, I would jump at it then!

We actually wound up getting married in PA. My husband was getting deployed so we moved the wedding up and had about 30 people at a waterfall venue. We have played with the idea of a vow renewal sometime in the future.
I would say maybe look for a town that may let you set up a tent on the beach. We had looked into that. The only thing is there may be some restrictions on alcohol and glass, but its still a way you may be able to have that dream wedding without spending a fortune

Hey Sara! What venue did you find? I am looking for about the same budget, with the same amount of people on the beach in NJ! I really don't care where on the beach. Just as long as it's in NJ.
