Inexpensive Stateside Honeymoon Ideas?

Kayla, on October 26, 2016 at 9:56 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 22

Hi everyone! It's been awhile since I posted, but I'm curious to know if anyone has ideas for some budget friendly honeymoons preferably in the US. I'm honestly kind of clueless when it comes to this kind of thing, so I'm curious. We moved the wedding to May (we decided to wait until I finish college, which I definitely feel was a smart choice) so I'm trying to get out of the cold weather mindset. Thanks!

Come to California. We're not getting rain anytime soon.... all jokes aside we have some awesome weather, beaches, national parks and theme parks.

I've heard Savannah is super nice! You could also do one of the more affordable beaches (I'm on the east coast and my fave are the Delaware beaches). I think that Bethany Beach would actually be a really nice honeymoon spot Smiley smile

@Mrs. LMac honestly probably somewhere between 2,000-4,000 with airfare. It honestly depends on how much we manage to save between now and then, but I wanted to have lower budget options just in case so we can splurge in the event that we have the extra money.

@Kristin I AM DYING to go to San Francisco. That's my go to idea, and something I've looked into. Any other ideas for places? I'm not a fan of LA, but I have been to San Fran, and a few other stops along the coast. I've looked in to San Diego a little bit...

@Julie, I'm in NC so Savannah wouldn't be too much of a jump. I was hoping to maybe get off of the east coast, but it would help to have the option to drive somewhere to save on airfare. I'll definitely look in to that Smiley smile

My FBIL and his wife went to SanFran in June (they live in Michigan). I'm not trying to put down anyone's city, but they said it was not what they were expecting. They said it wasn't super warm, and the beaches weren't very nice at all. Maybe they were expecting the whole state to be like SoCal? Not sure but just a heads up!

@Private thanks for the advice! I've been there before, and it's honestly more of a mountain city than a beach city. I expect it to be a little chilly (which I don't mind at all.) I just love the food, and the culture of the city along with the scenery.

@Kayla you could do wine country. I'm partial to San Luis Obispo county, I moved away and lived in SD and had to move back haha we've got the best of all worlds, beaches, wine country, a great downtown. We have a lot of "famous" landmarks Smiley smile San Fran is always good as is Santa Barbara. I love the redwoods and Yosemite as well.

Hmm, if you want to avoid the East Coast I think CA would be great, I actually alllllmost went with a trip down the CA coast for my honeymoon (and I think spring would be a perfect time to go!) I think CA is one of those things you can do fairly cheaply or you can spend hella $$$, it just depends on where you stay and how much you choose to splurge!

But echoing the post above, I agree that SanFran is not my personal cup of tea as far as honeymoons go (I spent two days there before going to Hawaii) -- it's a beautiful city but it is COLD and not infrequently dreary -- and I say this as someone who likes cooler, less sunnier weather! I think spending two days there was the perfect amount of time but it's also totally personal preference Smiley smile

@Kristin Wine country would be super nice! FH isn't big into wine, but I definitely am haha. I've been to Yosemite, and it's gorgeous. FH isn't really the outdoorsy type, but I'm open to anything. I haven't looked in to Santa Barbara at all but I really appreciate all of the great options. It's nice to hear from someone local haha.

@Julie, I think when I went I got the best of both worlds. It was cold in the morning with fog, but it got warmer throughout the day. I really loved it when the sun was shining but I can see how it would easily stay dreary.

Look into San Diego more! There is SOOO much to do there! You've got the city where there is so much to explore then you've got the beach just across the bay!

I had friends who honeymooned in SF. They then went north for a few days to Washington / Oregon. FH's coworker honeymooned in SF then drove down the coast and hit various spots. Both couples had a great time so those are options! The drive down the California coast is gorgeous!

Puerto Rico. I went there for a few days in February 2015 and loved it. Not expensive, easy to travel in and around with a rental car, and while it is technically stateside it feels very exotic and international.

If you prefer a more quiet/relaxed honeymoon, Fredericksburg, TX is one of my favorite getaway spots in Texas. It's in the hill country and has a lot of beautiful wineries to visit, as well as cute shops, great food, and hiking and other outdoor activities near by. Also you can drink while you shop in the downtown area, which is always fun Smiley smile They have some hotels, but most people rent cottages so you have your own place that's more like a mini-house.

You should be able to go almost anywhere in the U.S. for under $4K. We went to a nice all inclusive in the Bahamas and only spent $3500.

I think your best bet is to save all that money on airplane tickets and just shack up in he nicest hotel in your hometown.

4,000 might be a stretch, it just depends on how life happens haha.

@Zoe I've thought about that tbh, but I also really want to go on an adventure.

Has anyone thought about Boston at all?

@FallBride, I've never been to Boston either but I thought it might be fun. I've also thought about NYC. Martha's Vineyard would be beautiful!
