Informal "Bridesmaids" // Calling all creatives and poets!

Alissa, on May 11, 2016 at 1:02 PM Posted in Planning 1 12

Hi all! So, my fiancé and I are not having a traditional wedding in any way. In order to have the honeymoon of our dreams and to save money for our house, we are doing a Justice of the Peace Ceremony at the courthouse of his hometown, and then having a reception-type party. An "I Do BBQ" if you will. Smiley winking Anyway, although Im not having a traditional wedding ceremony, I would still like to have my closest friends and sister involved in the big day. To help me keep it together, to plan and get ready together. No coordinated dresses required. Im wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to ask these girls to be my "bridesmaids" in a way that isn't so traditional and typical. Maybe a creatively unique phrase rather than asking them to be "bridesmaids" so i don't cause any confusion, and a cute poem to go along with the gift I'll give when I ask them.

I would just ask them if they'd like to get ready with you. no need for a title, a cute poem, or presents.

ETA- when you do that stuff it can be misleading. no one is required to help you plan.

a good friend will help you 'keep it together' regardless of a title. so really all you need to ask them is if they'd like to get dressed with you. this is also all you would be asking of a bridesmaid too, they just don't have to stand up there.

I agree. Just ask. Will one or both be your witnesses?

Please join me in a "Getting Ready" party

There's really not much more for them to do but help you in to your dress if you like and enjoy some drinks and snacks with you that day.

I am not doing a BP and I told the people I wanted there that I would want them there - and than invited them to get nails done a head of time.

I think I'd be confused as your friend. I would speak to them individually and let them know your expectations- are you expecting a bachelorette party , the girls to be in photos, that kind of stuff. If they are helping you I think it sounds like a bridal party.

Don't ask them early. Wait until much, MUCH closer to your wedding. Read all the horror stories on WW to understand why.

Unique phrases and poems will make it more confusing. Just ask them if they'd like to get ready with you that day.

"I Do Crew" could be a cute name! But you'll definitely have to break it down for them Smiley smile "The wedding will be super casual and we're not having a traditional bridal party, but I'd love it if you guys would get ready with me on the wedding day! Definitely want to be surrounded by my favorite people"

I understand I will have to break it down for them but WWLynnie that was exactly what I was looking for! Thats so cute, "I Do Crew" love it. Will definitely be using that! My crew to hang out with the day of and get our hair and makeup done together, totally stress free.

There are little pizza shaped necklaces and bracelets on Etsy. You could always ask them to be a "pizza" your day. (I like puns and I like annoying FH with them even more.)

I love the "I Do Crew"! And the pizza necklaces are a great idea too, very funny and cute. You could get them all really blinged out horrible baseball caps with I Do Crew and take some pics with y'all all in gangsta poses Smiley smile
