Informing Guests of Postponement

For anyone who has unfortunately gone through the process of postponing their wedding already, how did you inform your guests? I’m not sure the best/easiest option for this.

A lot of people send postcards that are for change of plans or they just reach out to everyone.

We were only 3 weeks out, so we called and texted everyone. We followed up with re-save the date postcards, though we’ll realistically most likely be postponing again (I don’t think November will be safe).

We waited until we had the postponement date so we sent out a postponement announcement and save the date for next year all in one postcard. It seemed the easiest option for us and trying to get everyone emails seemed like a pain to me so mailing was our best option

I sent out a postponement announcement in the mail. I did not have a new date to announce at the time I sent out the postponement announcements (we didn't have much time from when we made the decision to postpone until our original date), so we put a note on them saying that we hope to announce our new date soon. Now that we have a new date picked out, we're sending out Change The Date cards.

We created a postponement “postcard” and text it to all of our guests as a quick way to get the information out. But I separately ordered “change the date” cards to mail and share the new date with our guests.

We sent out new save the date magnets with a note explaining the situation since it may not have been clear from the magnet alone. If you sent out save the dates for your original date, check with the company to ordered them from to see if they'll print new ones. We used Shutterfly for ours and we only had to pay for shipping the second time around.

We sent out "Ok, Let't Try This Again..." postponement cards with the new date. They went out around the time our wedding invitations should have gone out, so we thought that was the best way to inform people of the plans who were expecting to hear from us. We got a lot of positive feedback about them!

I called and texted quite a few people, and my fiance did the same. His dad also spread the word very quickly. We told him that we wanted to be the ones to tell people but ya know... After everything was official with our new contract, I put up a post on our wedding website and Facebook stating that it's been postponed to next July and that official date change cards would be mailed in the future. The post cards actually just came in the mail yesterday! I'll mail them out shortly but I believe that everyone already knows at this point.
