Instrumental music suggestions for cocktail hour

Nikki, on April 12, 2016 at 7:56 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 7

Hi all! We are having a string trio play during our ceremony and cocktail hour and I am so excited about it! I've heard them play and they are amazing! They will also play just about any song as long as we give them time to learn it. We already identified quite a few songs we want (definitely going more modern than tradition music) but I'm wondering if anyone has a song that they've heard played as an instrumental version that they loved. Some songs I originally put on the list didn't sound great without the lyrics when I searched for instrumental versions and now I seem to be drawing a blank on what other fun songs to play! We still need to add at least 5 or 6 more songs! We are pretty good on the ceremony, so just looking for cocktail hour appropriate songs.

You could try listening to Vitamin String Quartet and the Piano Guys for ideas. We're having our DJ play them during cocktail hour.

Search "instrumental string trio songs" sounds obvious, but it will give you an idea of how well a song plays without piano etc. I agree with DJF too, both will give you lots to consider.

We had a string trio play for our ceremony and cocktail hour and it was amazing. We had all classical selections. For cocktail hour we told them to play whatever they wanted! Are you wanting instrumental versions of modern songs?

I'd agree with letting them choose. Cocktail hour is a noisy time for most people, and while I love background music, that really is what it is; background. People are talking, laughing, taking photos, drinking and eating. They'll hear snippets of the songs, but no one is really going to focus, like the will at the ceremony and the first dance.

That's a good point about people not really focusing on the music then. They emailed and said that we needed to pick so many songs, and didn't mention about just picking what we wanted and letting them fill in the rest, although I guess that is kind of obvious! I'm you tubing Vitamin String Quartet as we speak! Awesome suggestion!

There's a Taylor Swift cover on strings that's pretty popular. It's pretty.
