But it's like the same people are too cowardly to say the same thing to me that was said to him. They (coworkers, and distant relatives) call him a N lover, and that we are going to have tar babies. It's really hurtful and dumb. I know they're only words but they still do linger. And my 2 sons from previous relationships love and adore him. And they endure it as well. How do other couples and parents handle these types of things?

@Blessed they think it's weird that black girls date outside their race, but these same black men that tell me these things always date other races as well. I don't have a problem with it but don't be a hypocrite about it. I'm going to love who I wanna love. And honestly everyone stares at everybody, when I dated a dark skin man they looked at us weird also, so I say screw the haters! Are your kids biracial as well?

@Adoretamm my point exactly. Black men especially, date outside their race but when black women do it we're going to hell in a handbasket. And no my kids aren't, they're black but my future babies will be biracial.

We're also interracial, FH is Black & I'm Puerto Rican though most people think I'm white. We're in NYC and even though it's fairly liberal & progressive here we've been stared at. Iget comments here and there but he gets the brunt of it.

I mostly ignore it, he gets very defensive but I know it's out of him being protective. The thing that usually bugs me the most is when people comments about how out children are going to look. And "hopefully they have my green eyes and good hair" like wtf! So if they don't have those things will you think less of them? We just try to continue living our lives loving each other. F everyone else

Edit for clarification: I didn't mean that I'm mostly fine he gets the brunt or it lol. I meant I havent really gotten anything too bad but he gets the brunt of the hate.

And I'm the complete opposite. I'm like a fire rocket. I'll go off for fucking with my man or kids. And no matter what my future babies look like, they will be ours to love and raise to know love has no color.

I guess we are interracial too as are many couples in my family but I never even thought about it! I'm blonde, he's Mexican. My son is blonde, his girlfriend is Laotion (but very dark skin). Sisters man is Indian . My step son is gay. Glad to live in Boston where we only hate the crazies, not people based on race or religion or who they date.

I feel the exactsame way. I could care less what our children look like, they will be ours and that's all that matters!

And if anyone said anything outright disrespectful to him around me I'd go nuts nut they dont. It's usually to him and he handles it how he sees fit. Similar to what you ladies were saying he always gets the "sold out" comments or people referring to Kanye West lyrics about leaving black girls for white girls. He always says well Jades Puerto Rican so idk what you're talking about. Most people make lude comments about "oh I know why you're with him Smiley winking" people are disgusting. I can't waste my time or happiness acknowledging them

It really pisses me off that things like this still go on in the world. Before FH I was with a black man. I got comments from my family in NY constantly. So I put them in their place and then I stopped talking to them. I still don't speak to them. We would get a lot of dirty looks and comments out here in AZ. More directed at us as a couple than anyone in particular, but we both had a mouth on us. If someone gave us a dirty look or made a comment, we would comment back at them. One older woman flat out told us what we were doing was disgusting. Excuse me?!?!?! Your stanky ass breath and that giant mole on your face is disgusting! The love that we have for each other not only as lovers, but as human beings, is a BLESSING. Stupid bitch. Yup. Welcome to AZ. Ignorance runs rampant here as well.

I honestly forget that we're in an interracial couple until someone mentions something to me about FH being Hispanic or his comments about how fair I am. I'm probably just oblivious to people and their stares because I just don't really pay attention. lol People just need to get over it. It's 2015 and it's absolutely none of their business.

And the most that I hear is that I am with him for money, but that is so far from the truth. We carry each other and our sons. Like that's so stupid to even think that way of someone and who they choose to be with and love. I just want to understand how do people even contemplate the stupidity that exits their mouths?! Like its simply inhuman to think and say those types of things.

I'm so sorry that you deal with this but depending on where you live it truly can be much worse I promise. As you can tell by my picture I'm white and FH is black. We live in China of all places and the racism here is ridiculous. It's bad enough if your a white person living in China, but add to that, that 1) I'm 5'10, 2) I'm over 300lbs, and 3) I am marrying a black man and it's just awful. I used to cry on a daily basis for how I was treated here. FH is so sweet because since he has become fluent in mandarin he can talk back to people who are treating us poorly. But it's 2015...I really wish we didn't have to deal with it. FH gets the worst of it since he can understand everything everyone says in both English and Chinese. In China, they call black people "Black Devil" and they constantly make comments about him being "Cooked in an oven when he was a kid". Such ignorance! We try to deal with it with grace and recognition that these people are about 50 years behind the rest of the world, but some days are good and some days are not so good.

I'm excited for future babies because I know they will be beautiful. Love to all you ladies and FH's who are dealing with these kinds of issues.

I'm really sorry this is happening to you - and to everyone else that has commented on facing racism/discrimination. This is truly ridiculous in this day and age.

I'm Mexican and FH is white. I've never had any stares/backlash back in Vancouver or here in Winnipeg. But FH comes from a very small town where everybody is white and I doubt they've ever seen a Mexican, so I do get a lot of stares. Nothing as awful as what you ladies have mentioned, but definitely stares and the odd ignorant/borderline racist comment here and there.

It really all should end! We all have the same color blood and all have feelings. The type of shit people say and do can cause longterm effects on sensitive people. My mantra has and will always be to think before you act or say anything to anyone because you never know what or how that person is feeling or where their mental state is.

So sorry this is happening to you (OP) and every person who has posted here. I'm white and FH is Asian- living in an urban area we rarely get stares (that I notice) but the brunt of the negativity comes from his family- they are ethnocentric and think their race is superior, since I'm white I'm not good enough - I know every Chinese person does not think that way but his parents do. Obviously FH does not think that way. I do sometimes hear comments asking if I'm with him for $ (he's in finance)- ummm no 1/2 of NYC is in finance! people are just ignorant! It SUCKS to deal with- I just hope that one day this world will see the human race as beautiful.

That's exactly what I mean. People think dating outside of race is some kinda comeup, when its actually not. I'm just disgusted all the way around.

Really interesting thread. I'm sorry about your troubles OP. FH and I are lucky that we don't really deal with that since we live and work in the NYC area. But he's been amazed at some of the micro-agressions we've experienced, like from people who are like, "Oh, this is your fiancé????" Like, we just told them the world wasn't flat. Doesn't happen often lol. I'm a second generation multi-ethnic (although my sister and I just call ourselves mutts lol). My extended family is every color under the sun so FH and I are lucky that we don't get any grief from anywhere in our families. Sometimes, it makes me double-take when his Grandma talks about me to other people ("Isn't my granddaughter so beautiful? We're so proud of her!") and he's not around. I figure they think I'm adopted Smiley smile

I don't know that I have advice except to educate your kids about the world. I didn't really experience outright racism growing up but my Mom always taught us about working hard and being educated and not giving a crap about people thinking one thing or another about us. For some people, we weren't black enough. For some, we needed to recognize we were "examples". We always said, screw that, we're just people. When I experience racism now, I just have to laugh, because I have an awesome life that I worked damn hard for. Those people trying to make me feel bad about myself? Sorry, you just look like an idiot.

    My fam:

    Parents, me and sis

    Uncle and grandmother from England

    Other grandmother

(Thanks guys, I got all excited about my multi-colored family Smiley smile)

I am white and my Fh is Filipino. My sister's boyfriend and father of her child is black. My mom grew up in the Carolinas and Oklahoma. She likes my FH. My sister's boyfriend came into the scene in a bad way, so he is still earning our respect as a person. We live in the Bay Area, CA. It is very diverse and I am a minority in my community. We have been here for 23 years, but my mom still makes racist comments. I correct her because it is embarrassing. She doesn't always understand why it is racist, so I tell her to not do it anyway.
