Intoxication on your big day

Will you guys be drinking at your reception? My family keeps telling me I shouldn’t at all. Which is upsetting, I want to have fun! I’m not trying to get sloppy drunk, will you guys be opting out of drinking?

I'm just hitting my 3 year sober mark so nope. My sobriety has allowed me to maybe have a drink once or twice a year and when I do that I get plastered, so I will drink for the toast, and maybe a tiny drink. That's it.

Definitely enjoy yourself!! Doesn't mean you need to get drunk! With all the happiness and excitement, you'll be totally fine. And once the party is over, than you can let loose and let the drank take over haha Enjoy your big day!

YUP. Our reception is dinner with only close family and we are walking distance to our hotel room, so we will most certainly be drinking. I plan for us to have a bottle of champagne in the room after the reception, too. I don't plan on getting blacked out, put I plan on starting with a mimosa and drinking something through the day.

We’re having a sunrise wedding followed by a brunch reception. The only alcohol available will be mimosas and bloody Mary’s. I may have a mimosa or two, but I also know I will likely not be eating normal that week and the smallest amount of alcohol could inhibit me more quickly. For that reason I may decide to just abstain.
I can have just as much fun without it as I can with.
But it’s YOUR day, you have to do what’s right for you.

One of my friends drank so much at her wedding she ended up vomiting...she did make it to the bathroom. One of the best pics from the wedding is her smiling over a toilet w her maid of honor holding her hair lol she bounced right off and went back to the dance floor. It was insane

This is a topic I struggle with because half of my guests drink and the other half abstain. I already had one guest tell me if I serve alcohol they wouldn’t come to my wedding!

I personally only drink alcohol on special occasions (which is about five times a year, and I only have about two drinks). I could go with or without alcohol on my special day.
But, I also want the guests that drink to have a good time. What is your suggestion?
So far, I have tentatively decided to serve a either a choice of beer or a specialty rum punch, one per person, and I have a cash bar available at the end of the hall, for anyone who wants to purchase their additional drinks.

    Hi 👋
I don’t think anything is wrong with having a drink or two, however try not to drink much more. You want to remember EVERYTHING that transpired on your big day. You can always party hard at a later time or on your honeymoon. I’m not a drinker so if I have 1 or 2 that’s it for me and I’m drunk. I’m SUPER LIGHTWEIGHT! This is your time to enjoy your union with your new source, family and friends.

There is a big distinction between liquid courage/enjoying yourself and getting drunk. While alcohol is definitely optional, I think we'll be having it for those who wish to partake. I know I would prefer a couple drinks.

It's not their place to dictate or suggest what you do.
