Invisalign

Taylor, on October 23, 2019 at 12:31 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 3 92

So I finally bit the bullet and decided to get Invisalign. My teeth have made me so self conscious my entire life and my parents didn't get braces for me as an awkward 15 year old like everyone else SO here I am. Totally not ideal to take on the extra expense while we're saving for the wedding but I desperately want a pretty smile that I'm not embarrassed about on my wedding day. I knew I would fix my teeth eventually so I might as well do it now. I signed the paperwork yesterday so no turning back! They told me that in order to fix my bite, the treatment would be close to 18 months (my wedding is 10/10/20) but my teeth will be straight in a years time. In order to have a beautiful smile on my big day they said they're happy to pause treatment, take the attachments off, give me a retainer for the time being, and whiten my teeth for the wedding. We'll resume when I get back from the honeymoon. Has anyone else had Invisalign?? If so, do you have any before and after photos? I'm literally obsessing over them right now. Hopefully, I'll get the outcome that I want. Share your experience with meSmiley smile

I would love to hear about people's experiences as well! I'm in the same boat as you. I really want to fix my smile so I don't have to worry about making sure people "get my good side," but I'm hesitant to take on the payment. Honestly though, if it's worth it, I may have to suck it up lol

I ended up putting $1000 down and paying the remaining $4600 in a payment plan. They're working with me and letting the payments go over a span of 20 months so I'm looking at $230/month. It's super inconvenient but knowing I was going to do it eventually, I decided to just suck it up and start now so I'm happy with my wedding photos. My insurance covered 0% because i'm over 18 years old (guess adults aren't allowed to have straight teeth?) but I know some insurance providers do cover part of it.

Well, and consider how confident you’ll be for the rest of your life after the wedding. Totally worth it, I think.
i probably would’ve done Invisalign if my wedding wasn’t two weeks out and kind of pointless at this point, but I’m still planning to eventually.

in exchange, I bought Smile Direct’s whitening kit, and it’s been the BEST. 5 days and a few shades lighter! Looking forward to having normal looking teeth in my photos. Smiley xd

Exactly!! I'm super excited that they said they'd bleach my teeth before the wedding. I'm dreading having them but cannot wait to see the end result.

That's awesome! I think investing in you is always a great idea. My husband plans on doing invisalign (he never got braces) within the next few years, but first he is doing lasik (and I am interested in lasik too). But we didn't do either for the wedding. I did spend over $1,000 on microneedling to help with pitting & acne scarring and I was SO happy I did!

Exactly. The smile will last a lifetime. I wouldn't do it right now if I wasn't so self conscious about it. I won't smile with my teeth showing for close ups, only for full body photos because it's less noticeable. I didn't really want to be thinking about that on my wedding day. lol Do the lasik!! I've heard great things. I have friends that have done microneedling and love it but I'm not a needle person at all so that's out for me.

I'm excited for you, it sounds like invisalign is a great option! My eye rx is unfortunately declining early so it's not consistent enough for lasik but I keep doing research & will get it right when my rx stays consistent for a year! I understand the needle thing. I have several tattoos & you never actually see the needle for microneedling, but for my skin I really needed it. Congratulations again!

Currently in my last stretch of Invisalign! I started in mid-May and will finish in December. They’ve been great, very minimal discomfort when I put in new trays. I’ll still have my aligners when I take our engagement photos, but I’ll just leave the trays out. You can barely see the attachments when the trays aren’t in. The biggest challenges for me where getting used to talking with them in (caused a minor lisp) and not being able to snack all day with my aligners in.

How is the microneedling and is it painful? I have scarring around my jawline (not bad and only in that location on both sides of my face; makeup will probably cover it) but that's one of my self conscious things.

I know it's an insane expense but you're going to be so happy! I had Invisalign a long time ago and it was such a huge difference to me. My top teeth (ones that are actually noticeable in pics) weren't that bad, but I alllllwwaaays noticed the slight overlap of my two front teeth. One always looked darker and one brighter in photos. I ended up not being good about my retainer (Don't be me!) and they shifted back. Now that I got engaged I actually got them again. (Again don't be me! Wear them and then wear the retainers lol) The overlap is already disappearing and god I feel so much better again. Ashley I was the same as you only taking photos from the right because the overlap wasn't as noticeable. Or I closed my mouth (see profile pic on here lol). Also check your insurance. Mine reimburses me like 40%. Either way you're going to be super happy with it!

I didn't think it was bad, 1,000x less pain than a tattoo for sure. Typically they numb your face first too, and if it does hurt it's for short periods of time (like less than 10 seconds). I had a ton of acne pitting in my cheeks and after 4 sessions it's almost 100% gone. It also helped with wrinkles, uneven skin tone, and sun spots. It depends on how deep they go with the needle for how bad it hurts/how red you'll get/recovery time. My mom ended up getting it on her face & neck too, she said it made her skin feel tighter overall.

Yay! I have a side when I take pictures too (right). lol The two teeth immediately next to my front teeth are set back so they always look dark in photos. Right side is worse that left. I also have a bite issue that needs to be fixed for other reasons that aren't cosmetic. I'm super excited!

I actually got braces before the wedding as well. My defect wasn’t that big but I wanted a perfect smile and got the perfect opportunity with a family member that I couldn’t pass on. It was really hard (and painful at first) and added an extra expense but so worth it in the end. I had it for exactly a year but thought it would be less. My condition was to have it off before my bachelorette party so the only wedding event I had it was for our engagement party and pictures. Sooooo worth it and I don’t regret it!

That's awesome!!! I'm glad to hear you don't regret it. Did you have normal braces or invisalign?

Regular braces but clear instead of metal. This is why I wanted them gone before all the events. I now have permanent retainers and is the best decision I took after my treatment.

I don't have any before and after photos, but I have been using Smile Direct. I finished my 6 month treatment plan, but had a re-evaluation done because I still had two small issues I didn't like.. they do re-evaluations for free and just this week I received 2 additional months worth of aligners to fix my two issues. Unfortunately I won't be completely done with them before my wedding, but I have noticed a significant improvement and am way more confident in my smile and how my photos will be. It sucks to wear them all day and getting used to talking in them is a real treat, but totally worth it!

Completely understand that. I hear Invisalign isn't as "invisible" as everyone says so I made sure they'd be off for my wedding/bridal photos. Thankfully the total they're charging includes a permanent retainer!
