Why are invitations so expensive?????? Everything I'm looking at is over $200 and then there's the cost of postage. I keep seeing post where others say they have saved so much money on Ann's Bridal, Zazzle, Vista Print, Minted and my favorite place ETSY. I guess i'm cheap because to spend over $200...

Why are invitations so expensive?????? Everything I'm looking at is over $200 and then there's the cost of postage. I keep seeing post where others say they have saved so much money on Ann's Bridal, Zazzle, Vista Print, Minted and my favorite place ETSY. I guess i'm cheap because to spend over $200 is insane to me for invitations. I need the invite, RSVP card, Card for hotel info and I planned on another card saying if you play these songs I promise to dance and let the guest name a few songs. Any ideas??? Suggestions????

Look on Shutterfly, I just received mine from them today! I ordered invitations with matching envelopes, RSVP card with pre-addressed return envelopes and was able to include all that you mentioned! I paid $150.00 for 75 of each!

Marryme.com it's part of Oriental Trading. They have some great deals on them. I'm trying to decide between them and Ann's myself

I ordered mine from Zazzle and they were great. Watch for their discounts and save even more money. I also used Etsy a lot during this process. I ordered templates from Paper Passion Designs with a beautiful font and made all of my own table numbers, seating chart, and signs for $10.00 and was able to make them look the way I wanted......and it was also good because of last minute changes.

    Good luck!

Sign up to follow those sites, that's what I did and I received free shipping and a percent off! It helps a ton.

I did it for my save the dates too. Good luck

I am using a website called GreetingsIsland.com. Then taking them to a local printer to print. I am sure I can find the envelopes fairly inexpensive online - I'm not worried about the gold foil or the pre-printed envelopes. And I'm not pre-stamping the RSVPs. I am using the RSVP to direct people to my Weddingwire website to RSVP. A domain is only about $25 by the way if you want your own website address.

I went with a local person recommended by my wedding venue. It still wasn't cheap - we got 50 each of Save the Dates, Invitations, RSVP cards, and Thank You notes for around $250, but she personalized them completely to our liking. It was nicer than buying online because she could get our exact color scheme, make as many changes as we needed, and can print more for us later if necessary.

I paid $87 for 100 invitations from Ann's bridal bargains. Just the envelope, info card (front was the invite, the back was the hotel info) and the RSVP postcard (front was the reply portion and the back was our address, which we stamped). There was a promo so we saved 10-20% or something. We didn't do STDs, we didn't do foil, we didn't do pictures, we didn't do magnets, we didn't do printed addresses, we didn't do paper upgrades, we didn't do extra paper for food, songs, hotels, registry info, or directions. I would eliminate pieces of paper if you want to save money, it's just not needed - no one needs directions or extra paper! And do you really want to deal with all those song requests anyway?! (just saying Smiley winking )

My fiancé and I actually found our invitations and rsvp cards at Hobby Lobby, on clearance, and spent about $80 in total on 200 invitations, including the printing. The invitations you buy there are blank, and then you can download the templates from the website (I believe it is hobbylobby.com/templates or something like that) for the specific invitation you buy. We just took the template to staples and had them printed. It did take a little finessing of the staples employees to make sure the sizing was correct and centered, so I suggest buying an extra set of invitations (they come in a set of 25 if I remember correctly). We also purchased a $10 rubber stamp for our return address to save us from hand cramps.

I ended up cutting out ALOT of the paper items I wanted to include with the invitation because of the cost, and 9.9 times out of 10 they just end up in the trash. I did add our wedding website to the bottom of our RSVP card, but had several people still ask what the website was and for hotel information (even though the website was on the save the date, and the rsvp card).

What you could do if you want to go the inexpensive, Hobby Lobby route, you could add a smaller business card with the extra information you want to include - hotel info, song request, etc.

Also remember!! The more items you include in the invitation, the heavier it is, the more stamps you will need to send it!!

It definitely adds up but consolidate some things as people are saying above and design the invite/RSVP tailored to your needs

Printed my invitations yesterday and I got the cards from Michael’s for $7! Turned out great! Doing the same thing for the RSVP cards! Saved us a lot of money!

We printed most of ours. We had a purposefully mismatched suite though so it helped that we could get things from different places. Our invites were Gartner Studios (print at home), our RSVP and detail cards were from Zazzle. Zazzle frequently has 50% off invite sales on weekends and Gartner Studios has full invite suites that are cheap but cute. We spent maybe $80 on everything and that’s for 60 invites (we also have about 15 leftover, I can’t do math when ordering online lol). I also added handmade touches like wax seals on the vellum belly bands I ordered (Etsy).

We were originally going to use Minted for our invitations. However, we used Shutterfly for our STD's and they turned out amazing, so we ordered the wedding invitation sample pack from Shutterfly. Everything looked so good and the price saved us over half, so we decided to order our invitations from Shutterfly as well. They had a 50% off sale this past weekend, so we went ahead and ordered them (we will just hold onto them until it is time to send them, which is a few months from now). We got 65 invitations (111 guest count wedding) with upgraded paper, foil pressed, custom envelopes, and they are addressing them for us (including return address) for $139.00. The same order with Minted was almost $300.

I'd suggest ordering their sample pack and seeing what you think Smiley smile They also send you a 40% off coupon that you can use if you order if they don't have another special going on at the time.

Honestly- I went "cheap" on the STD's and the Invitations. To me, it's something that's going to end up in a trash drawer or in the trash itself. That was my least expensive thing. STD's $74 for 60 and Invitations $100 for 70. Their not the prettiest but, their not the ugliest just simple. & the invitations include RSVP card too. Postage was $60 for all.

I used cardsandpockets.com Their stuff is super cute and beyond customizable. And you can download their free templates and print stuff our on your own. So you could say purchase the invite, envelops and RSVP from them and then print the rest of your detail cards at home to save money. I spent about $130 on 50 invitations doing it that way. But I did get some extras on my invites so yours could be cheaper than that.

How many households are you sending invitations to? An invite plus 3 additional cards is going to be really expensive, plus you'd probably end up needing extra postage. You could always add the details card information to the back of the invitation and put the song choice on the RSVP card. Doing it that way would bring it down to 2 cards.

I need at least 100 Maybe 150. I'm worried that some people may not flip the card over. I even thought about doing a electronic invite so I can easily track them and not have to pay for postage. If I get a premium electronic invite it will only cost $50. But I know the invitation sets the tone for the wedding and I'm afraid that people may not think it as being as formal as I want it to be, if I send it electronically.
