Why are invitations so expensive?????? Everything I'm looking at is over $200 and then there's the cost of postage. I keep seeing post where others say they have saved so much money on Ann's Bridal, Zazzle, Vista Print, Minted and my favorite place ETSY. I guess i'm cheap because to spend over $200...

Why are invitations so expensive?????? Everything I'm looking at is over $200 and then there's the cost of postage. I keep seeing post where others say they have saved so much money on Ann's Bridal, Zazzle, Vista Print, Minted and my favorite place ETSY. I guess i'm cheap because to spend over $200 is insane to me for invitations. I need the invite, RSVP card, Card for hotel info and I planned on another card saying if you play these songs I promise to dance and let the guest name a few songs. Any ideas??? Suggestions????

ShutterFly has cute designs and pretty good prices. That's who FH and I are going to use when the time comes to send invites.

    Hi Michelle!
i do agree with you and the crazy cost if invites. what were doing is having a wedding website and in addition we purchased invitation templates that cones with rsvp, welcome sign in addition to other things in the bundle . we got onsale for $44 (etsy) and we will either have zazzle. vista print or one of those companies print for us or do it ourselves (NOT) i also am doing digital save the date. formal invites will follow.

Not sure if it was suggested already but Walgreens is having a sale on their photo stuff now until June 1st! We got our save the dates through them a few months ago for 60% off! They’re always having sales and we found some nice designs!

I need about 130 invites, and already ordered StDs...

Our venue is pretty inclusive and one of the benefits they gave us is free invitations! BUT not really - they have their own invitation store and depending on the size of the contract, we get a code for a certain amount to put towards our invites. The unfortunate thing is, our guest list increased in size from the time we did the contract so we have about 50 cards not covered. Most of the cards I'm looking at there are about $175 per 100...

Come to think of it, might be a good idea to ask the vendor managers if they can give us a larger credit right now.

We got really lucky on StDs because I met a friend of a friend who works at a card printing service and gave us her employee discount code for 50% off. For 130 StDs, we ended up paying $123 (tax included, free shipping). The company is called Paper Culture, and they use 100% sustainable resources and also plant a tree for every order! Please check them out if that sounds like your thing!

I still wasted money though, because over half the guest list is Vietnamese (my family) and I only just learned that we don't really do Save the Dates. I only learned this because I hand-delivered a few to some visiting aunts, but my mom said they just ended up very confused. My aunt even thought she was uninvited because of the lack of an RSVP card! So I only needed about half the cards that I ordered.... Guess I should have taken a hint when I was talking about Save the Dates with my mom and she kept asking me what I was talking about.

My invitations later on will also need response cards and I also need to make some inserts with our wedding website on them (which I will probably just print as business cards somewhere inexpensive), since after reading some forums, it sounds like one really shouldn't put the url on the invite (tacky) or on the RSVP card (gets lost). My mom can help with the postage at least, since she works at the Postal Service and can just drop them off. Not to mention a lot of the guests are her work friends so she can just hand it to them! I kind of wish we didn't need the RSVP cards but many of the guests are older and might balk at their absence (like my aunt above!).

My mom also said that some people don't need invites because they're already not coming or something like that :/ idk, She's been playing a lot of weird games with the guest list that I don't understand, but that's a whole other story.

Also, David's Bridal has some deal with Shutterfly so every once in a while I get a 40% code in my email, so maybe one could make a David's account (don't have to actually buy from them? I don't think... ??? ) to get their offers. Still shopping around to see what would save me more money!

I use to print all my invites, banners etc at work for the last 10 years. But now we no longer have colored ink, only black and white. I guess they caught on to me lol

I purchased a template on Etsy and had it printed with Cat Prints Printing. It was still $200, but you could purchase the template and then print/cut your own!

Maybe I’m a snob, or maybe because I am a lover of stationary, but I’m willing to pay for what I want to have for my wedding invitations. Invites are expensive so I understand that’s why people are looking for cheaper options. However, I’m a believer that you get what you pay for. I’ve ordered a lot of samples from lots of different companies and two my cousins have gotten married before me and bought their invites from Minted. Personally, I have not been impressed by Minted at all or other more modern printers like Shutterfly. I’ve also noticed that most companies lack traditional styles and fonts that wedding invites no longer even look like wedding invites. Minted invitations are also not cheap and the quality is mediocre. I’ve decided to go with an independent company via Etsy that is $300 less than Minted and is letter pressed and completely personalized. The vendor doesn’t charge you personalizing either and the invites are absolutely gorgeous. If you’re struggling with options, check out Etsy!

Those extra cards add up! On many sites you can edit/customize the text on the rsvp so you could potentially add the song request there instead to save yourself the card. Unfortunately $200 is the lower to average side for invitations. I'll be buying about 35 invitations, and it'll be about $150 for invite, rsvp, detail card, and envelopes from shutterfly. $125 if I find a code when I order. Although, I am liking the e-invite idea more and more.

For real! I spent $180 on magnetic save the dates and my whole invitation suite and I thought that was too much (not including postage).

I went the paperless route and used paperless.com. I made my own invitation and uploaded to their site. I also made a for those who wanted an actually card. Give those to the wedding party and our parents.

LOL that's not invitations alone and it also depends on how many people you are inviting to your wedding, my dang guest list is close to 200 I'm trying to knock it down and Lord knows that price will come down, you also don't have to pick an expensive wedding invitation they have a lot of good cheap choices...They also have wedding invitations for your "HEARTASTROKE" you can also DIY just get the paper for your printer and type it out that's another way...Good Luck FB

We're doing Moo cards ! They specialize in business cards, but they do everything at a really good rate, and it's really easy to design your own invites!

Edit: Something you could do is combine some of your card ideas? Like, on the RSVP card, add the song request.
