Invitation dilemma

Cheryl, on January 1, 2021 at 11:26 AM Posted in Planning 0 21
I ordered our wedding invitations from Shutterfly Nov 29th, I was supposed to get them Dec 4. I did a chest with a Shuttefly rep who said they were on the way and I should get them Dec 7th. Well it came and went, I've had many chat sessions and even got a $15 gift credit to my account for a future purchase. Dec 23rd I got an alert that my package finally left Atlanta and was in Greenwood IN. Perfect they will be here before the beginning of the year. No, they went to Orlando and have since been there a week with no movement in sight. Would it be tacky to create a Facebook page for our wedding? We have 90 days left and want to start getting a head count. It will be less than 20 guest not including the bride and groom.

The post office is a mess right now, but you're still fine. Invites typically go out 6-8 weeks before the event. When is your RSVP date?

I would wait because invitations typically don't go out until 6-8 weeks before the wedding so you still have plenty of time. It's unfortunate but many delivery services have been backed up with deliveries because of the pandemic.

When does your venue need a headcount? I would assume not 90days ahead of the date.

Oh gosh, the mail has been a mess lately but you still have plenty of time! When does your venue/caterer need a final headcount? Like Hannah said, invitations usually don’t go out until about two months before the wedding date so hopefully you can still meet that timing.

End of Feb beginning of March, our wedding is April 2nd so the latest we would need is March 5th. Our catering company said 2 weeks before our wedding, but the rental place for chairs and such basically want a total head count the day we book, one of them does allow changes a month out

Not everyone uses Facebook but if you wanted to make a quick website at Withjoy.com and share that via email it would work. Invites don't go out till 6 weeks before the wedding so you have plenty of time. The post office is always crazy this time of year.

March 5th is still a pretty early RSVP date, but even still, you should be ok as of now. Are they RSVPing online or mailing paper RSVPs back? If the former, you should be more than fine. If the latter, then you might run into mail issues from that direction as well.

The good thing is our wedding is at our house so no venue, but we are using a party rental place for our chairs. When I talked to them a few months ago to get an idea on prices they said they needed a round about count up front. We would then have 30 days I believe to make changes before our wedding. Our catering company is a local BBQ joint so we only need a month at least, 2 weeks at the most. With it being Easter weekend (our wedding is Good Friday) we want to make sure everything is done ahead of time.

Mailing them back, everyone is local thankfully. I think my anxiety is getting the best of me since I'm a HUGE planner and I feel like I can't advance till I have a general idea.

Thank you everyone for your quick responses!! This is our second time trying to reschedule our wedding. Our first wedding date 4/4/2020 had to be canceled due to COVID. IT was a destination wedding and right at the height of shut downs. Sob2 weeks before our wedding we made the choice to cancel our Gatlinburg wedding and push it out a year.

Yeah, I get that, but you have to give people until the RSVP deadline to get back to you. Trust me, I was also anxious to get my final headcount and start working on the seating chart and stuff. But you have to wait until that deadline before following up with anyone who hasn't gotten back to you.

I think you still have plenty of time before you really need to worry. I would just send them out as soon as you receive them. Unfortunately the post office has been a mess. My grandmother mailed me a birthday gift last month and rather than arriving in Maryland where we live it first went to North Carolina which made no sense since it was coming from Pennsylvania. It never should have gone to North Carolina.

It really is! I sent out a bill that was going not even 45 minutes away from our house. Took almost 2 weeks to get there, lesson learned on my part there. As long as I can get them out by the end January I should be fine. It's family so of it comes down to it I can shoot them a text or a phone call then send out the formal invites.

I'm also getting married April 2. We're doing invites electronically using Greenvelope. Check into it, it's very affordable

I've never had an issue wifh shutterfly but that sounds really annoying. We created a facebook page for our wedding details. We are going to livestream our wedding (we are still going on as planned except for having my family in attendance) for people who can't attend due to covid. It's made everything simple and if is totally ok to create a page for it.

Thank you! Same here, I ordered my wedding invitations in 2019 for my 2020 wedding. When we had to cancel they actually were nice and offered to replace our new ones fpr our old ones. At the time we didn't have a date set, and I had forgotten about it. I can't really blame anyone it's just extremely frustrating, especially since I'm a big planner and I'm ready to dive into everything lol.

I know this is so frustrating for you. If you haven’t received your invites by the middle of the week, I would demand Shutterfly overnight you new ones. Their customer service is typically very good! I would not do the Facebook group just yet. Invitations typically go out 6-8 weeks before, so you still have some time.
Good luck! I hope you get them soon.

Oh no, so sorry that happened, mail has been crazy in December! It looks like you do still have time though. Electronic invites might be a good idea, but hopefully your invites show up sometime this month.
