Invitation start time vs actual start time

As a guest, if your invite says 5:30, do you plan to be in your seat and waiting for the ceremony procession at 5:30? Or do you plan to get there at 5:30, park, and find your way to the seats? At your wedding, did your ceremony actually begin at the time stated? Or did you factor in an extra 10, 20, or 30 minutes so there's no late walk-ins during the procession?

I think a 5 minute buffer is a good idea. Traffic, parking, your watch is slightly off, you got there 15 minutes early but everyone had to pee, etc.

Hi Candace, did you end up listing the start time or earlier? I am deciding the same thing as well.

I ended up listing the start time of the ceremony, 6:00pm. On the Q &A section of our wedding website, I put a question "What time should we arrive?" And I wrote, "please plan to arrive early to allow time for parking and finding a seat. There will be live music for your enjoyment starting at 5:30." Hoping that gets everybody there on time.

If I have an invite for a formal ceremony, I show up about 15 min before. I’d be mad if it started late.

My mother always told me to arrive a half hour early always. I think it's a good practice, that way you can still mingle beforehand and not be rushed to your seats. I will plan to put in my invitation or on my website for guests to arrive a half-hour early.
