Invitation Typo(s)!

Mariah, on August 8, 2021 at 8:26 AM Posted in Planning 0 24
Ladies, first time posting here as I'm mortified and sick to my stomach. I just sent out our wedding invitations yesterday that I've been working on for a YEAR with a design company on Etsy.

They were $1,600 and are absolutely beautiful. My dream invitations. I cannot tell you the number of times I reread these invitations and proofed them.
I analyzed them last night AFTER they were mailed and noticed there are not one, not two but THREE TYPOS. THREE. FREAKING TYPOS.
The invites are a right and left pocket with the main information section in the middle. On the right pocket, our venues name is spelled wrong when it lists the after party information. It also says "have been" twice when the accommodation section reads: a block of rooms have been have been set aside at
Promptly is spelled wrong on the main invite. The company spelled it promtly.
I am naseous and sick to my stomach over this. HOW DID I MISS ALL OF THIS?!?! How did my invitation company miss this?!?! I can't tell you the number of times I read my invitations over. My fiancé never noticed these mistakes either.
Where do I go from here? Can I ask for a refund even though I technically approved this?! I thought the invitation company would proofread this! I've been up all night. The company had amazing reviews. How was the ball missed here?! I am so sick over this I can't even explain! And if people notice, they're not going to say anything. I am so paranoid to know what people think. On top of this, I invited my boss and a few coworkers. This makes me look so sloppy and careless.
What would you do in a situation like this?

Can you go back and look at the proofs you approved to see if the errors were there? You can certainly try requesting a refund but if you approved everything before it was printed and the errors were there I doubt they’ll willingly give any of your money back.

As for what other people will think, I wouldn’t worry about it. Most people won’t notice and those who do won’t care.

The mistakes were there since the beginning. I have ZERO clue how these typos were missed AND I was a communications major. I am so embarrassed you have no idea!!

Contact the company and see, it doesn't hurt to ask. Its really hard to believe that you, your fiancé and whoever made the invites missed all of that.

I received a save the date in a newspaper style that had SO much text and it had multiple type-o's as well. Spelling mistakes most people probably won't notice, the "have been" twice might be a little more noticeable.

I'm sure the company won't refund your entire order, but maybe they can give a small portion back to accommodate for the mistakes. Worst case they say no, I don't think its a huge deal, its unfortunate but people really aren't going to care.

I have no idea how no one missed it either. I read it over a good 50 times. Even when I was bored I'd read the invites in excitement. Literally feel like I'm in a nightmare from this. The first thing people from our wedding and it looks sloppy Smiley sad

I honestly doubt most people will notice or even care if they do notice. I read books alot and the number of typos I find in books is alot, I notice shrug my shoulders and move on. It happens everyone is human, most people wont even notice.

I hope you're right. I just realized my venue also approved the proof I sent before I gave the Etsy company the OK. Idk how this happened..ughh

I have been to multiple weddings and been a bridesmaid in 7 and to be perfectly honest I checked the save the date for the date and that was it, at this point I cant remember what a single save the date card looked like, not even what my sisters save the dates looked like. I think its one of those things that will stress and bother you more anybody else (I am a perfectionist on the things I work on so I do get it!). I am making most of our decorations and trying to not let the perfectionist side of me get too involved lol.

If you, your fiance, and the invitation company all missed the errors, it seems like most of your guests probably won't notice the errors either. And even if anyone does notice, I don't think anyone would be offended by it. If I were a guest and got an invite with a few spelling errors, I wouldn't think any less of the couple or even really care. It wouldn't change my decision on whether to attend the wedding or not.

Thanks, I just feel like the invitations are the first thing people will see for our wedding. I don't want it to look sloppy. They really look AMAZING and I don't want the mistakes to overshadow :/

If there is one thing that a lot of brides will tell you after last year, it is not to sweat the small stuff. While it sucks, in the grand scheme of things, it's really insignificant. See if the company will do anything for you, but if they don't, take a deep breath and move on. If it makes you feel any better, I forgot to put an RSVP date on my invites, after my mom, my MOH and I read it over like 50 times each.

Doesn’t hurt to ask the company you ordered from what can be done? I’m not sure what you’d be looking for since these were already sent? In all the final proofs we received for save the dates, date changes and the invitation suites we had to acknowledge that we accept responsibility for the content and if there are typos they are basically our fault. That why I print them read it put it to the side for a day then look once more. I found a few minor things to change & I’m happy I did. People aren’t going to remember your invitation typos. Personally, I’d be annoyed I missed it then move on.

With the amount of time and money spent on your invitations, I can imagine your frustration! Like someone previously mentioned, guests rarely read an entire invitation, looking only for date, place, and time. Hopefully it won’t be noticed. You may not get a refund, but you may want to write a review indicating that the company did not catch these errors. Every wedding has things that do not go as planned and mistakes, so I would chalk it up to that!

I would just see if the stationary company can’t print you one without the typos for your photographer to use in details photos and not sweat the others.

Ugh, this is so unfortunately. I can completely understand your frustration. However, most people won’t notice. I don’t think most people even read the invitation closely. Hopefully one day this is a funny story you can look back on. See what the Company says and then move on to your other wedding tasks.

I literally put the wrong start time on my invitations and genuinely didn't notice it was wrong until the actual morning of our wedding. I had to text people the morning of to let them know that the wedding actually started at 4, not 4:30. Luckily it was only a few texts and everyone arrived on time.

My point is, it's not the end of the world. Most people won't notice. However since you've noticed the typos now, I would order a couple of corrected ones if you wanted to have them as a keepsake. If not, send them out as is. Ask the company about at least a partial refund. It can't hurt!

Sounds like the time, date, and place are correct , so no major consequences to worry about. Typos happen! Try not to sweat it too much. Literally opened a wedding invite last night that had our name spelled wildly wrong on the envelope . My husband made a comment like “even the end is wrong” and I was looking at my name and said “no it isn’t?” and then realized that not only did they get the last name wrong, it wasn’t even the same for him than for me. Almost like “Mr John Doe and Mrs Jane Doh” ….more amusing than anything. The invites are still beautiful!!

Tbh these all sound like things the brain skips over because it reads it how it makes sense. So the same things you missed in edits, your guests will probably miss too

If you approved the proofs, I don’t think they’ll refund you. If it makes you feel any better, I’m a pretty literate person & I wouldn’t think any less of you if I received an invite with those typos. I probably wouldn’t have noticed them. I know they seem like a big deal because you spent so much time and money on the invites, but if I got a beautiful invite with those typos, I wouldn’t think twice. I’d just be happy to be invited to a beautiful wedding!
