Invitation wording for pay it yourself wedding?

Sci Fi Bride, on January 17, 2016 at 10:56 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

I'm trying to get the invitations off to the printers this week, but am having trouble coming up with the wording for our invitations.

We're paying for the wedding ourselves, so is the appropriate wording:

The honor of your presence is requested at the wedding of

Bride's first middle last

and

Groom's first middle last

The Twenty-sixth of June, Two thousand and sixteen

at 3:30 pm

at

Banquet Hall name

with cocktails, reception, and dancing immediately following.

Or do we put our names first, request the honor of your presence at....blah blah blah.

Or does it even matter?

How it's worded now is perfect to me!

"Honor of your presence" is more commonly used for a religious ceremony. "Pleasure of your company" may be more appropriate.

Either way I would put the names first.

That's the same way we worded it.

Yes, that's fine but Sqwiggy is correct - "honor of your presence" is traditionally for ceremonies that take place in a house of worship. "Pleasure of your company" is for non-religious settings.

Also, since you've spelled out the date, I would stay consistent and do the same for the time - "at half past three o'clock in the afternoon".

Thank you everyone. Also, does anyone have any ideas for how to word the RSVP so no one thinks that their plus 1 is a suggestion, and really they can just bring however many they want? There was a thread about this about a week back, I think, but now I can't find it.

Ours just says "You are invited to the wedding of Danielle and Christopher", and we will write their names on the RSVP card.
