Invitation Wording

Lacey, on May 27, 2021 at 3:42 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 4
Hi everyone! So we are having a very small, intimate wedding consisting of our son, our wedding party and our parents, totalling 25 people. We are having our ceremony, passed hors d'oeuvres and then a sit down family style dinner. I've seen on many of the invitations things like "reception to follow" or "drinks, dinner and dancing to follow". Should I put reception or dinner to follow? Or any other ideas? Your advice and ideas are so appreciated! Thank you!

You can definitely put either of those since you are serving dinner. I'm not sure if you are calling it a reception or not, but "dinner to follow" is appropriate if it'll only be dinner afterwards. If it's only 25 of your closest family/friends, I honestly wouldn't stress about the wording because I'm sure they know your plans, right?

I would just say "reception" or "dinner and dancing" (unless your venue is not allowing dancing)

A dinner after the ceremony is still a reception, so you can use that if you would like.

I agree, you shouldn't feel uncomfortable calling it a reception - that is what it is, it being smaller in size doesn't change that. Equally, I think you could put something like 'sit-down dinner to follow' if you prefer.
