Invitations by post - sending in original envelope or second envelope?

mrswinteriscoming, on June 9, 2021 at 6:51 PM Posted in Planning 0 7

We will be giving out as many wedding invitations as we can by hand/in person (quite a cultural thing) and the rest will be mailed by post. What I am wondering, for those of you who have already given out your invitations, for the invitations you posted – did you send them in the ‘main’ envelope (i.e. the one that the invitation and any accompanying cards are in) or did you place that envelope bundle in a second envelope for postal purposes?

I have to start putting together my list of details for our envelopes to be custom printed hence I’m not sure if I just note names down or addresses too and send the bundle as is.

I think you’re asking about inner and outer envelopes. While they are nice, we did not use inner envelopes as it was a little more formal and traditional than our event. And likely would have pushed us over the 1 oz weight limit, meaning more money on postage stamps! 🤑 We used belly bands and a monogram piece to hold our invitation suite together. Either way is completely fine!

Do what you are comfortable with because there is no right or wrong. I would hand them the invite with both envelopes because it’s more polished. Also, mail used to be delivered by hand in outer envelopes covering inner.

I'd prefer to avoid wasting extra paper but I'm worried about the envelopes being damaged in transit.

Yes! whoops I completely forgot what they are called lol.

We are having a black tie wedding but I feel like if we use outer envelopes it would only be to avoid damage during transit. Hmmm

That is the intended purpose of outer envelopes. They are appropriate regardless of formality. Use whatever the invite company gave you and recycle what you don’t need.

The vendor handmakes all her stationery so I can’t justify the expense of outer envelopes other than for those being mailed but thank you, we will definitely use outer envelopes for all the mailed invitations 😊

I would definitely go with the outer envelope. A few in my invitations still arrived slightly damaged with the outer envelope and some of my RSVPs when I received them.
