Hi everyone, my name is NG (yes, it's really just two letters, LoL). I'm new to the forum, this is actually my first post. I'm getting married in November of this year and I haven't done much of anything. I would like to get your expertise on invites, is it cheaper to buy them or make them...

Hi everyone, my name is NG (yes, it's really just two letters, LoL). I'm new to the forum, this is actually my first post. I'm getting married in November of this year and I haven't done much of anything. I would like to get your expertise on invites, is it cheaper to buy them or make them yourself??? I'm not really big on DIY because I'm not really creative. But I'm looking for the cheapest route when it comes to invitations. Any thoughts???

I DIY'd mine. I spent $24 for 85 programs. I watched for Hobby Lobby to mark the paper 50% off. I bought 4 spools of ribbon.

    Here's the tutorial I followed:

I DIY Mines. I only spent $15.00 dollars. I use ribbon from the Dollar Tree and went to Kinkos to get them printed out and took them home to put ribbons on the top of them. I think they look great and save a lot of money doing so. Even if u are not creative u can find some DIY ideas online and trust me anybody can do them. Give it a try u might just surprise urself.

I DIY Mines as well, I ordered the invites from Wal-Mart and got 100 for less than 50 bucks. It came with the response cards and all the envelopes you needed as well as a template to use. Here is the link... This really took no time and it came out great.

There are so many DIY options that range from super super simple to putting in a little effort, but many of us here are DIYing the invites. Are you on pinterest? THere are so many cute ones there. Check out the wedding suite on wedding chicks like someone else said.

Also, even Target or craft stores have invites that you can buy and just print on your home computer and they are cute.

A wedding invitation video is a nice way too. Something not many would do and it is unique and cheaper. It's even 5.00$

Hello brides! I thought I would share some tips on this topic as a designer and DIYer.

It is likely "cheaper" to DIY invitations for the most part but it depends very much on what you want. If you are looking for letterpress or gold foil or laser cutting, for example, these are areas where you will need specific file types and resources, and without the experience in working with these things mistakes are easy to make and very costly. I know from making them myself many times!

I would also just offer the small word of advice that we have redone invitations for many brides who found themselves displeased with the quality from cheaper printing sites. If paper weight and things like that are important to you, you may want to at least chat with a stationer to learn some basics.

Much like when we DIY things in our house, sometimes we would have been better off had we hired help given the money spent fixing mistakes and time wasted. That said, many people have the artistic or crafting background to do an amazing job on a DIY invitation project!

Just a few things to consider and hope that's helpful. We have some resources on our website you can certainly utilize as well!
