Invitations & Postage - How much did yours weigh?

futurmrslowe, on August 24, 2018 at 3:05 PM Posted in Planning 0 16

I received my invitations in the mail yesterday - so this weekend begins envelope stuffing & response card numbering so they'll be ready to mail about September 15.

My suite has the invitation, of course, 1 details card + 1 response card & envelope. I weighed it on my food scale this morning and it was exactly 1 ounce (I even put a stamp on the response card envelope just to see). So that should be regular 50 cent stamps correct? I'd sort of been operating under the assumption that I'd need 71c stamps for the outer envelopes....but they just weren't so heavy after all?

What did you all end up with as far as postage?

(I plan on bringing one set to the post office when I go buy stamps, just in case).

Definitely take it in to be weighed and viewed. Weight is not the only factor used in determining cost to mail. Unusual size or shapes (such as square), bulk due to belly bands or ribbon, wax seals and the like can add to the postage cost as well.

I agree with this. Take it to the post office fully assembled so you know exactly how much postage you need to buy.

I figured -- and I reminded myself of that when I didn't let myself do belly-bands (because they add weight and REALLY go straight into the trash.)

I guess my question really was -- did any of you who had relatively simple suites (but more than just a single invitation card) actually get to use 50c stamps on your outer envelopes?

I do think typically that the Forever 50 cent stamp works fine for regular invites/RSVP/details cards unless you have a bow on the inside, a wax stamp, etc. That can up the weight. Taking it to the post office is definitely your best bet.

We did the all-in-one invites from Minted. The website says we need 50cent stamps for the invite and then the 35cent postcard stamp for the RSVPs. Maybe you can also message where you got them from and they will have an answer?

Mine were normal weight no extra postage only but it was only the invite (one sided card and the rsvp (same) and the two envelopes. Id assume youd need atleast 1 more stamp

That's good to know. They were actually custom designed -- but she had actually thought I would need 71c stamp -- but may that was before I nixed the belly bands.

I had the invitation with envelope, the rsvp card with envelope, a details card and a small cardstock card that had hotel information. All we used was the forever stamps.

For people not invited to the rehearsal dinner, we had:

    -Invitation

    -Details card

-RSVP card with a stamped envelope.

This weighed .92 ounces and we used 1 forever stamp.

For people that were invited to the rehearsal dinner, we had:

    -Invitation

    -Details card

-RSVP card with a stamped envelope.

    -Rehearsal dinner invite

These weighed 1.12 or 1.22 ounces and we just put 2 forever stamps on these.

My suite is similar to yours! I only have the invite, details card, RSVP, and RSVP envelope with a ribbon as my belly band and all weighs 0.88 ounces.

For the ceremony and reception following, we had pocketfolds with magnet closures containing the invitation, information on RSVPs, menu options, and information on accommodations. Those required extra postage. The invitations for the at-home reception were much simpler--a single card with a backing--and they just required normal postage.

Ours were pretty thick, and we had the invitation, RSVP, details card and envelope, and a regular stamp was sufficient.

Mine required the 2 ounce / 71 cent stamp because I had an interior pocket folder for the invitation, 4 inserts, and return envelope. I recommend taking your completed invitations to the post office for them to weigh to be sure of everything.

Ours was a seal and send, it cost no more than a first class stamp but I weighed it at the post office just to be sure. I stamped the RSVP card as well so guests would not be rummaging for a postcard stamp!!

My fiancé took our invitation suite to the post office today. It includes a 5 1/2 X 8 1/4 invitation, blotting paper, details card, RSVP postcard, and 2nd inner envelope with a liner. We came in under First Class postage, but of course it will still be .50 cents. I was both thrilled and shocked when he told me. Best wishes to all of us getting ready to mail these all important and exciting announcements.💍💐
