Invitations with Dried Flowers?

Kelly, on November 22, 2015 at 7:07 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 11

Has anyone sent or received an invitation with dried flowers inside? I'm considering adding dried lavender stems inside my invitations, but I'm concerned about whether they'll hold up in the shipping process.

The mobile app won't let me add the picture, but I'm thinking something like this:

    Just be aware that anything like this that makes the envelope thicker than normal will probably require more postage. Anything over 1/4 inch thick will cost you an extra 21 cents in postage for each one.

    To me this is just something extra that will get tossed once it arrives. Plus with the thickness and weight it will cost more.

    Thanks @ Ashley! That's what I thought, just needed someone to confirm it.

    @Wolf, I've also thought that it was a bit frivolous, but I just love lavender! Between the extra postage cost (good point @2d) and the overall uselessness, it's time for me to let this idea go and move on to another design.

    My friends used lavender to toss at their wedding, and also had it out for us to make sachets (it went with their unity ceremony thing). Maybe you can work it in some other way! :-)

    If I got an invitation like that I would think it was really pretty and everything... but ultimately the flower would end up in the garbage along with the envelope so I don't think it's worth the money.

    I would say most dried flowers would run the risk of crumbling. Might not be worth the money.

    I would not enjoy getting something like that in the mail. More than likely it will make a mess when pulled out of the envelope. I am extremely sensitive to fragrances (I have to use fragrance free, dye free everything.). So, if there were any fragrance left in it, it would set off my allergies - which would make me unhappy.

    @Kimi, I can't believe I didn't think of that! Good point!

    I'm glad you ladies have told me that it's not worth it. I was just captivated by the pretty invitations. I didn't think it would work, but I needed to hear other people confirm that before I could move on. If I didn't seek outside opinions, I would've always wondered if I missed out on something spectacular.

    My sister glued pressed flowers onto her invitations and as far as I know they held up. Since they were flat, they didn't add anything to the shipping. It was several years ago though so I have no idea where she bought the flowers.

    Whenever I ship a package, USPS asks me if there is perfume in it. I realize that a bottle of perfume is not the same as a few dried lavender pieces, but I don't know if they are worried about a spill or about the scent.
