Invitations

Kayla, on November 21, 2019 at 11:12 AM Posted in Planning 0 11

I'm getting married November of 2020, but I really want to take advantage of as many Black Friday/ Cyber Monday deals as I possible can (hello savings). One of the things I've been debating is whether we should order our invitations or not. We will be ordering our save the dates on Vistaprint to send out sometime in February or March. But our invitations are a little more complicated. FH will be designing them himself, and the style I want (a gate fold) seems to be semi hard to find for printing purposes. Shutterfly offers a design your own option, but it is technically a Christmas card, so it would go away after the holidays. It also would come with a free white envelope with address printing, which isn't exactly what I wanted since I wanted to use our envelopes as a pop of our colors. Is it too early to order invites? Would you order them even if they weren't exactly what you pictured? We would send them out sometime in August.

If you can get these things done sooner I say why not? I wouldn't order them if they weren't exactly what I wanted though.

Regardless of the style, I wouldn't order invitations a year in advance. There are details that might change as the wedding gets closer, but if you order invites super early you are either locked in to what you had printed or have to reorder them and that's a waste of money. For example, daughter's venue only schedules tastings, where details are finalized, 120 days prior to the wedding (venue was booked almost 18 months before the wedding). It was only at that meeting, while going over the final timeline (we'd had a preliminary since the venue was booked) that it became clear everything would work better, if daughter moved the ceremony up by about 30 minutes. If she'd already printed the invitations, she would have been stuck with the timeline that would not have worked as well or had to pay to reprint the invites. There are tons of things to do early, but I'd recommend holding off on the invitations themselves. Most of the big printers run 50-60% off sales on a regular basis.

I would get them as early as possible because one who doesn't like saving money and two it is one less thing to worry about in the future

I wouldn't order invitations this far out. Details can change unexpectedly and you could end up spending more in the long run, you never know what the future holds. We had to change our date at 6 months out of our original date (which was then 4 months out after changing the date) to accommodate a family member being deployed. Sometimes venues burn down or get sold, the time of the ceremony could change. Personally, I would wait until at least 6 months out.

If you can get the things you need/want at a better price I say go for it.

It's a bit nerve wrecking to order something like that so far in advance because you never know if any details will end up changing. I had my save the dates mocked up and ready to order for quite some time but we knew it's too early. Just last week, FH and I actually changed the whole entire design/layout and we're so much happier with how the new one looks.

So no matter how big or small, anything can happen and you just might have to dish out more money to re-order if anything was to change detail wise so in the long run it doesn't seem like you would really be saving anything.

I'm a big fan of savings and it's totally fine to order your cards ahead of time. You can address then sparsely instead of all 100+ in a few hours. Good luck!

If everything is set in stone and you know exactly what you want and can get it discounted during Black Friday, I would totally do it! Smiley smile

We are getting married at the end of August 2020. I am ordering my save the dates, invites, and other stationary that we need on the black friday/cyber monday deals. Our locations are already booked and paid for and the times are set in stone as they are what works best for us. If that doesn't work for a guest, then so be it.

I personally wouldn't because what if your day of timeline changes as you get closer to the date. I'd rather pay $10 more to wait than pay twice due to a change in info.
