Invites that didn't show up

Tina & Darren, on December 8, 2020 at 12:25 PM Posted in Planning 0 22
I'm inviting like 100..so far 97 people rsvp...I'm wondering if all these people are going to show...that's kind of the issue..the venue is with plated food so I have to pay per head...I'm hoping that everyone actually shows up...has anyone has invites not show up

If your wedding is almost a year away, it's really hard to know who will actually RSVP at the time invitations are sent out. You caterer shouldn't be asking you for a final headcount until you're MUCH closer to the date (usually like 30 days away). I would follow-up with your venue/caterer to make sure you know when they need a final headcount.

We had just 1 not show, but his mom was hospitalized 2 days before the wedding. We also had someone not invited come. So we didn’t have any extra plates (besides the 4 guest that came and left right as tables started getting dismissed to the buffet 🤬 and didn’t eat!)

There may be people who don't show, but if they RSVP yes then definitely have a plate available for them.

Every wedding I've been to in the past, the couple said there was 98-100% attendance rate so to not expect anything different.

They were family I didn’t talk to much anyway, but it’s been almost 2 years and I was polite at thanksgiving last year and haven’t spoken to them since.
We had some left over. I don’t know how much. I know me and hubby each got a box of Togo food. Not sure if any parents got some as well.

Yeah, that’s definitely not going to get you an accurate headcount. Invitations and RSVPs typically go out 6-8 weeks before the wedding. There’s no way for people to know if they can make it to an event a year out or even if some of the couples will still be together by then. Not to mention, people are going to forget. I would disable your RSVP feature on your website and send invitations closer to the wedding date.

Many great points here. Invitations don’t go out until 6-8 weeks before the wedding & your venue would want the final headcount 30 days out. You might have a few no show but that’s really to be expected as last minute things always pop up.

Umm your wedding is nearly a year away so there is no way people can accurately RSVP for a wedding. You sent out invites way too early. The caterer just wanted an idea of how guests you were expecting, but once the wedding was closer that's when you would need to give a final headcount.

Then why are you expecting people to RSVP at this point? RSVPs aren't turned in until much closer to the wedding.

Saying yes to a save the date is not an rsvp. People don't know what they're doing next week, never mind 12 months into the future.

I'm not expecting people to do so ....It's set up on my website and I'm smart enough to know that things will happen in the months to come ....I just wanted to know

Wanted to know what exactly? The number of people who RSVP'd yes now could change multiple times from now until your wedding day.

Save the dates you do not generally get responses to - they put people on notice of your wedding so as to literally 'save the date' and nothing more.

Once you send your invitations out and people RSVP, then, you assume that every person RSVPing 'yes' will attend (some people will not RSVP by the response date so be prepared to chase people up on this). RSVPing yes and not attending is a huge etiquette no-no (unless the guest has an absolute emergency and cannot inform anyone in advance) so your 'yes'-s should be there on the day.
