Invites

Sakina, on October 14, 2020 at 9:55 AM Posted in Family and Relationships 0 9
Has anyone ever had family members kind of just assume they were invited to your wedding? I'm having a hard time telling them that they aren't invited. With the package I have, you can only invite a certain number of guests(less than 20) so I just invited my immediate family. I should of just told her upfront when she was asking me about it because we don't talk often at all and she surprised me by calling me out of the blue lol...The same thing is happening to my FH as well....It's like everybody is coming out of nowhere lol...how do I tell them that they aren't invited????

I would tell them something along the lines of, "We unfortunately aren't able to invite as many people as we'd like to. Due to space and max capacity at our venue, we were forced to limit our guest list to immediate family and wedding party only." Are you planning to do a live stream of the ceremony? If so, you could invite them to watch the live stream!

I'm not doing live streaming, but I guess I can look into that. I guess since they assumed they are family that they can come. I'm like it's October and the wedding is in January...if you haven't even received a save the date by now, means you weren't on the list...Thank you for the advice!!!!

I agree with Lisa. On fb, I made a group and invited people to join who we sent invitations to. This is what I posted (it's also on our website). My my future mother in law and my mom have been telling other family members the same thing when they ask why they weren't invited (that we want to keep the guest list limited).

I think its the norm for people to just assume lol. We have a bunch of people who assumed they will be invited to our big wedding. For the ones who have asked us, we kindly told them that they weren't invited because it wasn't in budget. For the others who are assuming, if they ask we will tell them otherwise they will figure it out when they don't receive an invite.

It's definitely human nature to assume haha. It might be good to just update them on wedding planning and be clear about the options you might have for them (livestream) and that it's a very small and intimate setting. Perhaps "You're Not Invited" can be taken harshly depending on the tone; just be kind and let them know that you still care about them and want to provide alternative plans (if you have any).

Talking about safety during the pandemic would be good too... I'm sure people will understand that it's just not the same anymore.
