Ireland Honeymoon in October

Kayla, on January 3, 2018 at 1:32 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 11

We are getting married the first weekend in October. Not going right away, but maybe a couple weeks later. Still undecided. I heard January is cold and a lot of things are closed during winter, but how is Fall there? We've never been and was looking at some of the *almost* all inclusive packages available. I don't think we want to rent a car since neither of us are familiar with the lay of the land or driving on that side of the road which is why we were looking at tours. Has anyone used CIE tours? They have tours that include accommodations, most meals, and excursions. Was looking at the 10-11 day ones. Anyone have any advice?

Might not be super helpful but we went to London/Bath the first two weeks in October and got extremely lucky with the weather. It didn't rain at all in the 10 days we were there and it wasn't SUPER cold. I wouldn't recommend going after October unless you really like winter, though.

We were in Ireland last June. It was pretty cold and rainy. I think the average is around 50 degrees in October. Probably colder on the coast. I was freezing at the Cliffs of Moher (but it’s BEAUTIFUL and where we got engaged).

We looked at some tours but ended up planning our own itinerary. The tours looked great, but left out too many things that we wanted to see. We spent 4 days in Dublin and then rented a car for a few days. Driving wasn’t too bad. You just have to get used to roundabouts. I think you’d be fine with a tour as long as it goes to all/most of what you want to see. I also personally prefer tours that give you ample time on your own, so you can go out and be among the locals instead of just being around other tourists the whole time.

I was also in Ireland this past June. Again, weather was in the 50's and rainy. We flew into Dublin and rented a car. For the 10 days we were there we drove around the country. I would HIGHLY recommend it so you can explore at your own leisure. I too, got engaged at the Cliffs of Moher! It's absolutely stunning and I cannot wait to visit again!

I visited Ireland/UK in late September and early October. Weather was up and down, some days I had to wear shorts and other days I'd wear thick sweaters and a rain coat. I didn't do a tour and planned every detail myself. It was exhausting, but I saved a lot of money. LIke PP, when you do a tour, you have to do what they planned. The reason why I didn't is I wanted to go and see things that would never be on a tour.

I’ve been to Ireland twice in the past year. The first time was the last week of October and it’s true, most sites close down or have very restricted hours after October 31st. We then went in May and it was fantastic both times. The weather was actually quite similar in May and October. We did drive though. We created own driving agenda and hit many great places. You should love it!

I went several years ago at the end of December/beginning of January and while it was cold, it wasn't unbearable as long as you were dressed appropriately. From what I noticed nothing was closed during that time frame either. We took a tour and while it would have been nice to do things at our own pace we also had down time in each city/town we stopped in that we could do/see whatever we wanted. For the first time being there I liked having someone else kind of tell me what we were doing and seeing.

Following. We're getting married the first week of October and were looking into Ireland. We won't be able to go right away so we're looking for the best month to go.

I went to Ireland in Feb 2 years ago... it was very rainy and mildly chilly but otherwise worth it. We stayed in Galway for fell in love. Do not bother with Dublin... doesn't have that Galway charm.

It isn’t terrible but isn’t great. I studied abroad in Ireland during the fall semester. Expect to wear coats/sweaters/boots. Know that there will be rainy days. But it’s not freezing for the most part. Some days I only wore a sweater other days wore a coat as well.

Hey, I'm Irish and I can tell you that the weather is so changeable here. I'm in Galway on the west coast of Ireland, the scenery is beautiful though and makes up for having to wear a jumper/coat etc.

Best of luck with all your planning and if you do visit the west coast a trip to the cliffs of moher is a must! Below is a little link to an elopement i shot there last st patricks day - Kimberly and Matt came from Arizona and embraced the rain!Smiley laugh

We are currently planning out a trip to Ireland in April, and everyone we have talked to has said a car is a must to really take in Ireland. We are going to Killarney, Kilkenny, Galway, and Dublin and basically doing a loop around the lower part of the country. From what I hear the weather is very changeable all year long and almost always mild temps. It never gets higher than like 65-70 and rarely lower than 45. When you are planning on going it should be somewhere in the middle.
