Soon to be Mrs. Z, on October 25, 2012 at 8:14 AM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 10

Ok the time has come I have to join a gym Smiley smile

Fiance and I are moving, im graduating from school in a month and will hold a full time job so I need to get in shape for wedding day!!!

I was looking at prices and its like 40 a month! that seems silly to me and I just want to know what other brides think of 24 hour fitness or if their are better gyms I should look into. Im located in Portland OR

Does that include group fitness classes, or is it just for use of a gym 24 hours a day.

I personally like the 24 hours a day gym membership and in the last 2 weeks it has become more usefull as I start having nightmares about the wedding and cant sleep with my to do list running thorugh my head. I just go up to the gym get on a treadmil or stair climber and try to wear my self out.

I pay $31 a month that is for 24 hour 365 day access and unlimited group fitness classes. I have been with my gym for about 5 years and I think now the same package is about $40. so if it were me it would be worth it...

It's only worth it if you go. I belong to Crunch (9.99 a month) and Retro (20.00) a month, and they are both fine. They are really close which makes it easier.

If that sounds like a lot to you, then I'd investigate putting a home 'gym' together (might be a good idea anyway). All you really need, to start, is a set of bands (I got mine on ebay for 29.00), an exercise ball and a yoga mat. (You could also post on Freecycle; there is excercise stuff on my board all the time; I got an eliptical and a multistation machine from two other freecyclers. Again, it's only worth it if you actually use it.

Groupon has one month memberships all the time; it might be good to see if the gym thing is something you'll stick with before you sign a contact. Good luck!

Celia why do you have both? I like that crunch has tanning which is leaning me that direction but they dont seem to have as many weight loss classes or fun classes like 24 hour. Kickboxing, dance, and bootcamp.

$40 sounds reasonable. FH and I pay $50 for both of us to have a membership. We belong to LA fitness. I hear good things about 24 hour fitness. I would’ve joined one but LA fitness is quite a bit closer for us. I think if you have a 24 hour fitness membership you can go anywhere there is one. Which is nice if you are visiting somewhere or on vacation.

I only pay $10/month for 24 hour fitness including the sports clubs. My work subsidizes the rest. You should look at Costco for gym memberships.

I'd second Costco for memberships or go in occassionally and see if 24hr is offering any membership deals. I was lucky and got in on a deal around Nov/Dec several years ago so I'm locked into a deal I can't beat anywhere else but $40 still seems a bit high for them. I'd see about getting a 2wk trial and try out their classes. Gym's vary quite a bit from place to place and I've enjoyed the classes and instructors at the location near me but have heard horror stories at other places.

Yep, look at Costco. U pay more upfront but the membership is good for 2 years. I have 24 hour fitness but I signed up like 6 years ago when they were having this amazing deal where u pay $500.00 and then $19.00 a YEAR!! That deal is long gone now. But I have the luxry of it. It's so nice. Smiley smile Here's the link for the costco membership.

I love the turbo kick classes that 24 hour fitness offers. I found my favorite instructor and follower her around to several of the gyms that are close to me. I like that it's a large chain because whenever I move or switch jobs, there is always another one near by.
