Is 250 people too much for a wedding?

Lynn, on June 7, 2019 at 11:19 PM Posted in Planning 0 24
I have started putting together my guest list, and it totaled 250 people. This seems like a ton of people. How many people are you all inviting? Thinking I should pare back...

250×25, at per head for dinner. That's a lot of money. If you have it to spend, go for it but if not I would definitely only include those you have current relationships with.

I am also having 250. They said that's a large wedding. I definitely wanted less than that but we ended up letting our parents invite people so it ballooned. But in general when you allow kids and plus ones it just makes the list so much larger.

If you can afford to properly host 250 people, go for it!

We're inviting about 50-60. We never cared to have a big wedding anyway. Especially since we're the ones paying for it. It just depends on you and your budget. I've heard of people with even more than that.

We’re at 300, but my parents are paying for our wedding so they have a pretty big reign on the guest list.

That is a lot of people, but if you can afford hosting that many people, there is absolutely no reason not to.

Just depends on your budget honestly. If you can afford to pay for that many people to be at your wedding and reception and it's what you want, then go for it! Just make sure you're also able to secure a venue that can comfortably accommodate that many people before you send out Save the Dates or Invitations just in case. You may end up needing to cut your guest list for a number of reasons, but if you're able to pull it off with that many people... AWESOME!

FH and I are paying for our wedding ourselves, so we decided we did not want to invite more than 120 people and that is pushing it. Weddings are so expensive.

Our invited guest list was over 200 with plus ones. Thankfully not everyone could come though because at $200 a person for dinner and drinks that would’ve been a much larger check! It’s all about what you can afford.

We are caping our list at 250.
    Our venue can hold 240.
We were at 175 with family and wanted to invite some people ourselves.
We're hoping to invite no more than 225.
And get enough declines to put us under 200.

We had 15 for our DW and 50 for our local reception. It depends on your budget and priorities. Our priorities were the venues, food/drinks & experience over guest list. Unless you have a HUGE budget, it’s all about priorities. If you can have it all, why not? 😊

We're having 250...it's like PP said, it's all about your budget. We both have large families and have many friends, so we knew long before engagement that we would have a larger guest list when we get married.

We have invited 116, but probably about 90-100 will actually come. As long as you can budget that many people, I don’t see why not. It’s your wedding!

The problem where I live was finding a venue large enough to host 250. I would start there... if you fall in love with a venue, but it only can accommodate 175... you’ve got your number! It was hard for me to find at first, but I finally found a venue that held 250 for ceremony & reception in one location!

I'm looking at about 85-90 for mostly family and a hand full of friends. A girl I went to school with is looking at 400. Every wedding is different. It's your call.

FH and I both come from large families. However we only wanted family and friends there that are present in our life. Turns out that my FH is way more friendly than me lol. So we are between 220-250 ppl. Since FH knows it’s mostly his list he’s paying a bit more than me. To me it was inevitable that we would have a huge wedding. I was just hoping I could keep the number at 200 or less.

If you can afford $100+ per person for food and drinks then that’s your decision. But also think about invitations, postage, and place settings for each of your guests.

250 is not too big of a wedding at all! However, if you're going to have a guest list that big and then have a cash bar, no valet, and stuff like that, you need to cut that list.

We're inviting around 170 and probably 130ish will come.
Do what you feel comfortable with and you can budget for.
