We're starting our ceremony at 5:30 and eating dinner around 7. We will have a cocktail hour with appetizers immediately following the ceremony though, so I think it will be fine to have dinner a little later.

Not in my area, but I have heard that in some parts of the country, people freak out if they aren't eating dinner at 5 pm.

We are starting at 5, then cocktail hour, then food around 6:30. I really wanted to start later, but had to compromise with FH who wanted it a lot earlier... :-P

6pm ceremony is fine. But it's not realistic to say dinner will be at 7 with a 6 o'clock ceremony.

Our ceremony started at 4:30, ended by 5ish ...cocktails til 6ish..buffet opened at 7...(we had dancing ...(the Jewish custom is to dance the hora right after grand entrance ), then we did first dance , toasts and buffet) Sunday wedding too. A few older ppl did leave early but the young crowd stayed til near end (10pm).

We went to a Jewish wedding a few years ago on a Saturday night. They couldn't start the ceremony until sunset, which in June is after 8pm. The wedding went from 9pm to 1am. It was tough, but we managed to stay until the bitter end.

I don't think so, I'm thinking of doing at 6pm start time as well.

My ceremony start time is 6 pm. Sunset is around 8:30 so that works well.

As long as there's not a gap between ceremony and reception, 6 is perfect fine

We are doing 6pm, June 19! I was wondering though, what is the best time to take photos with lighting and all? I would like a first look and most of our photos to be taken before the ceremony and we can do a few after.

For some people, it's very late, especially since many venues close at 12 so you may be rushed. For other people, that's a perfect time. Ask your clostest family/friends before you decide.
