Is a Day of Coordinator Worth It?

Lydia, on January 24, 2024 at 4:48 PM Posted in Planning 0 6
I am having a decently small wedding of 100 people. It’s suppose to be very simple on a farm with hiking trails. Since I am paying for most of the wedding myself do you think a day of coordinator is necessary? I’ve heard most people say that having one saved their own day and made everything easy.
Thank you!

Are you having various vendors such as a caterer, a DJ, makeup and hairstylists, florists, and photographers? You may still need someone available to keep all these groups coordinated.

Absolutely. Most couples don’t need an expensive full planner unless they intend to show up without making a single decision on any vendor. A day/month of coordinator who is not employed by the venue is vital. They work behind the scenes to make sure the day runs smoothly. That means thinking on the spot how to fix snafus, having vendors on speed dial who can fill in when there is an issue with one who doesn’t show up due to being stuck behind a car accident for example or they double booked. The day of coordinator knows your vision and how to make it happen, which your loved ones are not able to do, plus your guests don’t get to be guests when they work.

The reason that a venue coordinator is not the same as a day of coordinator is that they only focus on the venue. They make sure doors are unlocked, lights are on, vendors are out at the contracted time, and so on. The couple and their guests is not a priority for the venue coordinator and they don’t do set up or tear down of your decorations.

Yep you should’ve a day of coordinator bc you will have stress on your big day. My day of coordinator made sure everything ran smoothly, took care of issues, vendors etc. it is a big help

My husband and I originally weren't going to book a day of coordinator for our wedding, but once we postponed from 2020 to 2022 due to COVID, we ended up booking one, and I'm SO glad we did!! She took care of all the behind-the-scenes tasks, and I was able to sit back and socialize with our guests and truly enjoy the day (instead of having to solve minor issues that came up or worry about venue setup/tear down or keep everyone organized for photos, etc). I think a day of coordinator is totally worth the cost.

Yes yes yes. it may feel that way but trust me, 100 guests is not a small wedding. I had 50 people at my wedding and regardless that's a lot of people to wrangle in addition to multiple vendors. You have a limited amount of time to do everything (hair, makeup, prewedding photos, ceremony, post ceremony photos, cocktail hour, dinner, toasts, cake, dancing) so a person that makes sure everyone is where they need to be and doing what they need to be doing when they need to so you can ENJOY and get the most out of the happiest (and probably most expensive) day of your life is a must. I hope we've convinced you 😅

Yes, absolutely! Someone needs to be point person for the vendors, and you two have too much on your plates that day! Ours was fantastic coordinating with the vendors, our wedding party, and our families. Plus she made sure we got a private moment after the ceremony and something to eat at the reception!
