Is a guest book necessary?

Lillian, on August 28, 2013 at 4:44 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 21

Do you have to have a guest book at your wedding? I don't think its necessary since we are doing RSVPs, but am second guessing myself. What are you ladies doing?

I’m having one. I’m planning on doing a scrap book type one. Easy, cheap and matching our personality. Do I think it is a necessity? Nope. DO it if it’s in your budget and you want one, otherwise I don’t see a need.

I got a free photobook code with Shutterfly when we signed up for our registry with Target. I used the code and made a guestbook with our e-pics. I only had to pay for shipping. Smiley smile

It's really up to yourself for the guestbook, either have it or not. as long as you can track the arrived guests and taking care them within order, then there are really nothing to worry about =P

Nope. My sister didn't have one at her recent wedding and nobody missed it. That said, I made one on Shutterfly and I love it but it's also not NECESSARY to have it.

You can skip it - I have been to many a wedding where it was sat on a table and people didn't sign it. A lot of weddings I haven't even clocked it.

We are not having one but we are having a Quaker marriage cert which will act as one.

Shutterfly guest book here. I hope people leave us messages, and not just their names.

    I don't think it's necessary, but it's a nice piece of memorabilia.

I'm doing a picture frame with a picture of us and the guest can sign on the border around the picture.

You don't have to but you can do something creative instead. My sister considered getting a platter that everyone can sign then going to one of those paint your own pottery places to get it fired. What she ended up doing is having index cards that people could write well wishes or advice on and then put them in a little photo album. I made them for her (as MOH) where I got blank 4x6 index cards in her colors (green and blue) then used different stamps to make it look pretty. (I added the picture for you to see) So you can have fun and be unique with it if you want, or go without it completely!

    Thanks everyone!

@Nay - I got the photo booth from a friend who owns an entertainment business here in Jersey.

We're doing one just for decoration after. We're getting a big wood letter G and having everyone sign it. Just to put up on the wall for later.

A guest book definitely isn't necessary but some people feel its a nice memorabilia to have afterwards. There are a ton of creative options if you don't want to do a book: have your guests sign a quilt square and then make it into a quilt; have them sign a large champagne bottle and use it as a decoration in your house or as a vase; a wine bottle can be used and then drink the wine on your 1st anniversary; a photo frame with your engage, net photo; Jenga pieces or puzzle pieces; rocks from your garden.

There are some more ideas on my Pinterest board:

We had a photobook for the guests to sign. My thoughts were that even if no one signed it, we'd have a nice book of our best photos. But the DJ made sure to remind guests there was a guestbook, and they all left us beautiful messages!

I think we could have done without, but I like having the book as a souvenir.

I had also seen a ceramic vase that people can sign, and I thought that was a good (and useful) idea, but then family members reminded me how clumsy I am, and true, that vase wouldn't have lasted very long in our house Smiley winking
