Is a Month/day of Coordinator Worth It?

Mallory, on June 16, 2021 at 10:25 AM Posted in Planning 0 7

Hello! We are a little under a year out from our wedding and have secured most vendors (venue which includes DJ, catering, alcohol, cake, lighting; photography and videography; hotel blocks; wedding party transportation). But I have to say, wedding planning is stressful and I'm ready to hand it all over lol. That being said, have any of you hired a day/month of coordinator and is it worth it?

As a background, we are having a church wedding followed by a reception at a banquet hall (about 20 mins away) that is fairly all-inclusive and has an event coordinator. Though we are only able to come into the 1.5 hrs prior to the cocktail hour to decorate etc., but we will be getting married at this time. I am type A and want to ensure everything moves smoothly on the day of, but not sure if it's worth it since my venue (not church) provides an event coordinator. Thanks in advance!

We will have the staff at the venue to help assist us with setting up and keeping the flow of the day going, but have also hired a day of coordinator in order to ensure that we don't have to focus on the "what's next" list. I would rather go with the flow of my wedding day being directed/suggested with what we need to do or where we need to be instead of having to try tracking down and wrangling people up for whatever the next part or step is in the schedule.
If you are considering, definitely do your research when trying to pick someone, ours came highly recommended by multiple vendors that we are using and after doing the research of her work it became an easy decision that would be the best choice for us.

Worth every penny in my opinion. The event coordinators provided by venues oftentimes only do tasks that are directly related to the venue, whereas day of/month of coordinators do so much more!

I absolutely suggest hiring a DOC! They are a life saver on your wedding day. They take care of set up, break down, are the point of contact for all of your vendors, help with scheduling everything, and basically just keep your day running super smooth.

What does the banquet hall's event coordinator do? Would she not act as a DOC?

Thank you all so much! So the venue coordinator is solely for the venue. She wouldn't handle anything prior, such as the church or transportation etc. Though I do believe they'll do a lot as far as setup/breakdown etc. Similar to what Hana said, how the event coordinator is solely for the venue so she wouldn't be point of contact etc.

Thank you all! I think you're confirming what I already thought lol. I just wasn't sure since the venue coordinator is also involved.

A month/day of coordinator is the best investment you can make because they keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes so your guests can enjoy themselves. A venue coordinator does not focus on the customer. They are only concerned with making sure the venue is unlocked, lights are on, you and vendors leave on time and the list goes on.
