Is a Photo Booth worth it?

Desirae, on May 10, 2019 at 9:25 AM Posted in Planning 0 15

I’m having a hard time deciding on whether to have a photo booth or not.

If you’ve had one could you let me know if it’s worth it?

I’m hesitant because I don’t want it to take away from people dancing but I also want people to have lots of fun at our wedding. Any advice is appreciated!

Some people say it is, I think I'm an unpopular opinion because I don't think they are at all. They are really over-done. It's a know your crowd thing, though. My friends/family like to socialize and be on the dance floor. Any wedding I've gone to in my circle that had a photo booth was a fail, aka no one used it. We didn't bother and no one blinked an eye. Our guests had a great time without needing other ways of being "entertained". If you have the budget, go for it. Can't hurt. But if you are thinking you can put that money elsewhere, like upgrading something, totally skip it.

I opted not to have one. Simply because it was $500 and not in my budget. I would have gone with one if it was cheaper.

I've been to a wedding that had one and i honestly loved it and it didn't take away from the fun at all!! People used it all night and i still look at the pics we got from it and smile remembering how much fun that wedding was. That being said, we wont be having one at our wedding simply due to cost. We might DIY one though with just a little Photo Op corner that people can take their own pics and share them how they wish. Like FutureMrsKC said, i think its a more know your crowd thing and either way you cant really go wrong.

I personally love photo booths, I think they're so much fun! We have one at our employee holiday party every year and we always get pictures taken and I add it to my collection lol. The thought of having a photo booth at our wedding never even crossed my mind until FH said he wanted one, so we got one. I've been to a wedding with a photo booth and I don't think it took away from the rest of the reception. They had it open for cocktail hour then closed it for speeches and dances then opened it back up for the rest of the night. I got my photo booth pictures in and still had a blast on the dance floor.

If it's within your budget, it's a nice thing to have. But not worth going overbudget for.

I'm not having 1. They are at least $1000 in my area. Also, the 1 wedding I went to with 1, no one danced. There was always a huge line for the photobooth and like 3 people on the dance floor. I would rather people dance.

We're doing a DIY one for about $140 (given that we're buying a ring light for it). I don't mind owning the stuff, we're using a tablet with a photobooth app, and then we'll share the photos to social media. And a DIY one sticks out just a bit more, because you see the backdrop and everything, which makes people more aware of it. This works for us because we're not worried about it messing with our aesthetic (the reception is about FUN), and we know our people. For the most part, people are older than 35, or teens. They just haven't been to enough recent weddings to be burnt out on the idea. It's still a novelty. That's the trick of it, really, no matter how you're accomplishing it. DIY or rental. If your guests see it as a fun novelty, they'll use it. If they see it as trite and overdone, they'll ignore it.

I really like them and think it's worth it if it's in your budget. I love that guests can take a little souvenir home with pictures to remember the night. Also, one of my relatives who had one said that some of their favorite pictures came from the photo booth 🤣
It took awhile for me to find one that's reasonably priced, but I'm soooo glad we'll have it.

I love photo booths, so we are having one. Ours doesn't print out pictures, they just give us a thumb drive with all of them at the end of the night. So we are going to send them in thank you cards for the guests!

I personally am not a fan of one. I feel like I'm paying a professional photographer to get great shots and also I've seen weddings that have them have a huge line with people waiting to take photos. I just feel like i'd rather have people socializing at tables or dancing than standing in a 50+ person line to get in a photo booth. Just a personal opinion! Also I've noticed younger crowds seem way more into them than older family members so I agree--it's a know your crowd thing! Smiley smile

We are having one. We love the idea of our guests being able to bring home their own photos of them having a good time at our wedding. Plus, after the wedding we get a book with all the photos that were taking at the photobooth.

I think they are extremely fun as a guest! I would say if it's NOT affordable I wouldn't do it. Mine is like $325 for 2 hrs. I refused to pay anything more than that. Photo booths are pretty popular in my area. If you can't find anything affordable another option would be the DIY fujifilm version if you are really wanting an activity for guests. From my opinion I don't like to spend the entire night dancing.

We had one, and it was great. It didn't distract from the dance floor (we had an amazing DJ so he kept it packed all night) but it gave people a break and it gave the guests who didn't like to dance anyway something to do. Our DJ also owned the company that did the photobooth, so the attendant that was on site was just as entertaining. It was a great piece for us, and I'm SO GLAD we did it! Getting a copy of all the pictures was a nice bonus as well.

That being said, if we didn't have it in our budget to do one, we wouldn't have. It definitely wasn't a NECESSARY item, but all of our guests loved it, and it was well within budget.

I love photo booths and we are having one. It was $670, I offset the photo booth cost by using the venue's (free) centerpieces, (free) cake knife, and (free) card box.
