Is a Sunday wedding really taboo?

Azaria, on November 24, 2018 at 1:54 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 32

Hi so I had decided the wedding date to be May 30, 2021 because that is our anniversary date and I would love to get married on our anniversary. I also saw it as a good weekend to do so since that year the following Monday is Memorial Day so most people will already have off. I mentioned it to my mother and she commented that people don't get married on Sundays. What do y'all think? Do any of y'all know of someone who has gotten married on a Sunday?

I don't mind Sunday weddings at all. The only thing is you have to be prepared for people not to drink as much so I wouldn't buy like a premium bar package if you do it on a Sunday because most people will not take the next day off of work. My best friend actually just got married on a Sunday, still just as beautiful and still just as fun Smiley smile

Thanks! Do you know if most people tend to have Memorial Day off?

Sundays are totally fine for weddings! I’d love to attend. Brunch is yummy. But if you’re doing an evening wedding, start earlier so that it ends by 9 pm (my hubby would want to leave by 8 or 8:30). It’s great because guests might drink as much either on a Sunday (saving you money).

If I wasn’t doing a Friday wedding, Sunday would’ve been our next choice (Saturday’s are so expensive). I do feel people who have to work would not stay as long if it’s an evening wedding but I like the idea of an early wedding with brunch and maybe a mimosa bar instead of a full open bar? If majority of your guests will be off the next day for the holiday then I’d say go for it! I work in a hospital so I wouldn’t have the holiday off but I know a lot of people do.

Sunday weddings generally have a more low key vibe than Saturday weddings. Keep in mind that if Memorial Day is the next day, some of your guests could be on vacation that weekend.

We are getting married on a Sunday. The way our families party you wouldn't know if it was a Saturday or Sunday. We were cautious about a Sunday weeding but my mom eased my mind saying if guest want to share in this moment with you, they will. If they want to be there they will come. For those of us who are trying to stay under a certain budget, a Sunday allows that. Weddings are not just for Saturday's anymore.

I’m getting married on a Sunday. Sun April 26, 2020. We chose that day because it was A LOT cheaper than a Sat. Also we are starting our ceremony at 4pm so to allow people to attend church get things done at the end of their weekend. Those who want to stay until the end will and those who don’t will leave early. For us as a couple as long as they are there to witness the ceremony and break bread with us (dinner) we are cool with early exits.

People have Sunday weddings all the time. In some faiths/cultures/heritages it's the normal day. In your case though, be aware that some guests may have long standing plans for Memorial Day. Check with your VIPs before making solid plans.

My friend had hers the Sunday before Memorial Day. She had pretty good turnout but there were a few families that weren’t willing to give up their longstanding Memorial Day weekend plans so they didn’t come. I see what you’re saying about sending out save the dates early but that still doesn’t guarantee people will forgo their normal plans for a wedding.

I’m getting married on a Sunday! We have to fly in from out of town and get our marriage license and then get ready for the rehearsal dinner so we needed some extra time. If ppl don’t come we will just have fun without them.

I haven’t been to a Sunday wedding but I have seen discussions on these boards and some others about having weddings on Memorial Day weekend and overall people had low turnouts since people often have other plans. But your guests might not! Just something to consider.

I’m getting married on a Sunday! I would think Memorial Day weekend may be the tricky part though. Lots of people have plans, and traveling over Memorial Day weekend is tough... flights are much more expensive and traffic is rough everywhere.

I don't know anyone who has gotten married on a Sunday but I know it's not unheard of. I think Memorial Day is a great Sunday to get married on since many (not all) people have off. If you've checked with your VIPs and they're available, go for it!

I'm getting married on a Sunday in July. Not sure what the turnout will be like but it's a destination. So I know those who do come will most likely stay since they're staying overnight. It's a toss up with the holiday but like someone else said - those who want to be there will be there

I got married on the Sunday of Memorial day weekend this year and we were happy with everything. We knew it would be went alot of people would have plans but if people want to celebrate and share in your day they will come if they want. We sent out save the dates a year before so our guests knew ahead of time. We invited about 100 and only 70 rsvped but we were fine with that. We then had family over on Monday for a BBQ before we left for our Honeymoon on Tuesday. People will have excuses but if they want to come to your wedding they will make plans to.

I am having a sunday wedding labor day weekend. If you send out STD in advance. Your wedding can possibly become a part of someone vacation plans.
