Is a wedding website truly worth it?

IrishLove™, on June 3, 2013 at 11:07 AM Posted in Planning 0 33

I've been working on a website here and there but I'm really not feeling it. I mean is it truly worth the effort? We are not doing RSVP though it, all direction and hotel info will be printed out and included with the invites.

Just wondering if it's worth it or not.

You don't have to. Ours actually hasn't got much traffic. I got really bored and had nothing to do at work one day and made ours. But it isn't absolutely vital.

I think you can get on without it but I made FH do it and I didn't care if it was anything spectacular. So far after sending out my STDs I've gotten 30 hits on the site...we'll see what happens after I send out the invitations.

It's nice b/c we can put info on there that isn't included in the invitation (like where we are registered) but everything can also be relayed by word of mouth

I started mine and never finished it. We didn't have a need for it at all honestly.

I hear a lot of girls say too that no one looks at it - but that could depend on your guest demographic as well.

It is not needed. We did one because we didn't want to print out hotel and travel info for our invites. We included the website on both the STD and an insert in the invite. We did not bother spending too much time on our backstory and didn't put any info about our wedding party. Just tried to keep it simple and convey the important info.

I don't think it's needed but helpful. I put tons on there that wasn't appropriate on invites such as no kids (I put it more tactfully than this), dress code, directions, recommended restaurants and things to do in the area (most people are traveling here), hotel details, etc. We also have the wedding party listed with funny pictures which a lot of guests said they loved (especially my MOH and me at my 6th birthday party)

No, hardly anyone looks at it. Although it is an easy place to have the registry links available.

We did one as many of our guests are out of town (almost everyone) because we no longer live where we grew up and both come from different states and went to school in a different state too. We have almost 250 hits on our website and invites aren't out yet (we have 82 days till our wedding). We aren't doing fancy invitations so we are using the website for hotel info, registry info, directions, ferry information, etc.

ETA: We have a lot of young people invited and most of the adults on our list are relatively tech savvy.

We found that almost all of our guests looked at ours for information on our DW - hotel block, directions, etc. but no one used the interactive pages we set up to request songs, or leave messages. (We only know they looked up the info on the web site because when we would ask if they needed directions or hotel info, etc. they responded that they found all that on our website.... otherwise we wouldn't even know that anyone checked it out. My FW and I were most of our "hits" on the web site counter)

So if you are planning a DW, it might prove helpful, but otherwise it would be more because it's just something you want to do for yourselves. It's actually kind of fun to set it up and every now and again sit together and update it or just go through it.

Mine ended up being kinda useless, honestly. I was trying to give information early and thought our guests would be like me -- the more I can look up online, the better. Nope. Very few people looked at it beyond possibly the registries. Was a waste of my time (not that I spent that long on it) and I would have been better off putting extra info cards with my invites.

We have one, but in the past, I've only ever looked at someone's website in hopes that it had directions to the venue and the address lol.

I have one, and we are doing the RSVP's on it, so we're pretty much making people look at it. I've heard great feedback though. My bridal shower was this past weekend, and my family loved learning more about me and Charlie, along with learning about my wedding party. It also holds information about where we're registered and what to wear and accommodations info. I think it's been useful.

I did mine in October, and haven't really looked at it since, until yesterday when I was bored so I added my wedding party, I have had like 380 visits to it!! I think they are nice to have!! Mine is pretty simple, and didn't take long to make.

We had one, and liked it till family drama started...and then it went to the website so we took it down.

@Laura, we did online RSVP's too -- but it seems like people just went directly to that page and that's it. For letting guests know about it being adults only and and unplugged ceremony, the website was useless. And those were the really important things.

It's not necessary and honestly it seems to be challenging to navigate for most people over 50. that's been my recent experience in using it. the good thing is that there weren't many people over 50 invited and we did send out return rsvp's for most of them.

Practically no one looked at mine. A couple people did only after I had to follow up for RSVPs and it was too much trouble to check a box on a card and drop it in the stamped addressed envelope, so they used the RSVP feature when I held their hand and led them to it.

Everyone who needed hotel information, I had to spoon feed that info also.

Website is pretty much a waste of time.

It seems like a novelty, I think we just enjoy having it! FH created it so we decided that after the wedding it will just be about everything us and we might be the only ones looking at it! HAHA

I found out over the weekend that my 7-year-old wedding obsessed cousin has viewed our wedding website at least 50 times. Apparently she just sits there and hits refresh, rereading everything and looking at the pictures.

Ironically, the whole point of our wedding website was to have a polite way to convey to our guests that we aren't inviting children.
