Is age 17 and 18 too old to be a mini groom and bride?

I want to involve my two younger cousins in my wedding, and we already have our wedding party selected. Is it too old to have my 17 yr old god son and my fiancés 18 ur niece to be a mini groom and bride?

It's usually referred to as Jr. Bride (not to be confused with Jr. bridesmaid).

I haven't seen this since my sister got married when I was 7 and had her cousin be her Jr. Bride. I never understood the purpose.

It's a cultural thing for some Romani and Hispanic groups. When I was a kid and lived on the CA/Mexico border, I lived in a Hispanic area with neighborhood weddings all the time and I don't think I went to a wedding without a mini bride or groom. But I believe the tradition is for younger children (like 5 year olds) to do it, not teenagers. When you think of it with little, little kids, it's not the same as thinking of teens getting married, which obviously has very different implications. Our traditions (bridesmaids, garter toss) could be seen as pretty "creepy" by other cultures too.

Which Romani groups? FH is Hungarian Roma and neither he nor his mother have mentioned us making one of his little sisters a "junior bride."

Not trying to be aggressive, just curious.

No idea. I don't have any Romani friends who have done it or anything; I've just seen it on tv and such. I think the people in those shows are in the UK somewhere, but it's been a while. I can only speak personally to it being a part of some Hispanic cultures, but certainly not all. FH is Hispanic and nobody in their family has ever done it either.

My family is from El Salvador. I grew up in a very a Salvadoran community. Growing up most of the weddings I attended had a mini bride and groom. However, I don't think it has any cultural meaning it's just tradition.

Just how this article mentions the mini groom is actually the ring bearer and the mini bride was the flower girl but in a white ballgown.

Things change. Now a days I seen people incorporate the flower girls with different color dresses. To each his own.

OP to answer you, no 17/18 is to old. If you want to have them be part of your day just ask them to be a GM & BM

I have never heard of this, but I don't care if they are 1 or 18, this is extremely effing weird.

Attention should be on the bride and groom, not a fake mini pair. A mini bride and groom just to have them in the wedding party. Nope.

Also, not for nothing but I am NOT sending an 18 year old girl in a wedding gown down the aisle on my wedding day. I've had a kid. NOTHING on me is a high or tight as it was when I was 18 and I sure as hell do not need to be reminded of that by some nubile mini-me on my wedding day!

If they're old enough to get married themselves, then hell yes, they're too old. Make them a bridesmaid and groomsman or something. Ew.

We've all been through the ringer with a 500 plus post, recently hidden thread authored by a bride who had us all acting as instant wedding planners, so unless your mini bride and groom are Etsy figurines sitting on top of your professionally supplied cake, we're clueless.

Are you actually suggesting that two teenagers dress up as a bride and groom and, for some reason, that would escalate the pageantry of your wedding?

I've learned a lot last night and tonight -- a lot about how weddings shouldn't happen, but do -- a lot about the things brides buy into that are mind boggling and illogical. Sorry but the prom set belongs at the prom in prom garments, not being mini-me brides and grooms at a wedding.

And please, spare the daycare, elementary, or middle school set from being added to this oddity. You're the bride, and he's the groom. End of story.
