Is an Outdoor Ceremony Too Risky?

Tiffany, on June 18, 2017 at 4:49 PM Posted in Planning 0 7

I've always really liked nature and greenery, so I definitely want to try and have my ceremony be outside, even if the reception is indoors. But is planning an outdoor wedding in mid April too risky? I live in San Diego, despite the saying "April showers bring may flowers" there's really no knowing how the weather will be for sure.

Ladies, do you think I should just bite the bullet and pay a little more to have an outdoor wedding mid summer? Or should I risk it and continue planning to have it mid April?

I would get event tents if you do April outside! If you do mid summer then you probably dont need the tents! Outside weddings are so fun Smiley smile

I'd do it. But just have a backup plan. We are doing beach wedding in August at venue site. If rain that day it will be held indoors....

There's probably just as good of a chance for rain in the summer too! PLUS it'll be super hot, and potentially so much so that it'll be uncomfortable to be outside.

Look into a location for your ceremony that's covered (like a pavilion or deck) or having a tent on "stand by" in case rain ends up in the forecast.

My FH and I picked an outdoor garden with a covered pavilion for our ceremony spot, and it seriously might be my favorite part of our day so far!! We also love nature, but now I also have the piece of mind that we are still okay if it rains.

(Ps we live in Pennsylvania and our chance for rain is much higher than yours. I'm a meteorologist.)

    Hope that helps!!

I had an outdoor ceremony in late March and it was lovely. However, the forecast called for storms the whole week of and days following our wedding. By some miracle the rain quit Thursday and didn't return until Monday after. The two weeks before I had to create an indoor plan as a backup with the venue.. I hated the idea of an indoo ceremony, but you must think about your guests comfort first and foremost. As long as you have an indoor or tented back up plan, an outdoor ceremony could be amazing ah de it is less likely to be miserably hot yet.

We had an outdoor wedding in our backyard. I had a tent on standby, but really didn't want one...for us it would have taken away from what we did in the yard. Fortunately it didn't rain...it waited until the day after! I loved having everything outdoors! It was magical!

Just make sure you have a backup plan. Whether that's ordering tents or making sure that he venue you hire has a space for outside and inside ceremony!
