Is anyone else afraid they might start crying at the altar?

Sally, on July 13, 2010 at 2:28 AM Posted in Planning 0 44

I am generally thought of as pretty level-headed and not overly emotional; however, if I am moved, I will cry. I simply find things moving sometimes and the feeling overwhelms me. So, how in the heck am I not going to be overwhelmed with emotion at my own wedding? Are any of you ladies afraid that you might break down at some point during the ceremony? Is that okay? Has anyone ever seen this occur before?

I know for sure I will, I am most definitely a cryer. My plan is to have one or two pretty antique handkerchiefs and waterproof mascara.

I'm getting antique handkerchiefs for my BMs also. One of them is such a drama queen, I have a feeling she's going to make a pretty big show about her tears.

Anyway, I think a bride shedding a few tears is normal - it's an emotional day! A bawling bridesmaid is a little ridiculous, lol.

PS- I think we have the same cake topper!!! I love the sweet little lovebirds! Smiley smile

Oh, neat! You have this caketopper, too! Unfortunately, now that it's been my pic on weddingwire for so long, I'm kinda sick of looking at it. lol. Okay... good advice on the waterproof mascara and hanky. I am so glad I am not alone! I only just thought of the crying dilemma... goodness, please don't let me bawl. That would NOT go with my dress.

Hee hee I"m with Lavonne, it's not an "if" it's "when" Smiley smile I bawled when my fiance proposed. And then I thought I was fine but then when we went to pick up my ring and put it on, I started bawling in front of the entire store. I see it as a great thing, I was engaged once before and instead of crying I felt sick to my stomach. So I'll just wear some water resistant makeup and get some pictures before the ceremony.

Oh, Sally, so sorry to hear that about the cake topper! Lol, mine is put away in a box so I don't see it that often.

@Mary, Know what you mean about bawling! When FS proposed we were at a concert and I cried so hard I started hyperventilating... And totally embarrassed myself.

I know I will cry for sure. It's going to be one of the most emotional days of your life. I have been to weddings where both the bride and groom shed a few tears and it just seems so meaningful because you can feel their emotions. It's ok to cry

I cried when he proposed, and I know I am going to cry during the ceremony. I am just going to try not to let it get too out of control, if possible :-0

I know I will be crying and I will see my FH and he will be crying. This will make my sister cry, and the chain goes down the line. But just remember... tears of joys and waterproof mascara. Smiley smile

I made tears of joy packets. Everyone thought it was over the top UNTIL the ceremony started. I was fighting back tears before I walked down the aisle and then my sweet man started crying reading me the vows he wrote me and I really burst out crying. We had to speak into a microphone so people in the back could hear and everyone was crying. I have watched the video of the ceremony at least 10 times and cry each time. I had waterproof mascara and a tissue under my bouquet. Thank goodness!

My wedding was 32 years ago but the one thing I remember clearly was that I cried when it was just my Dad and I in the back of the church; all of the bridesmaids had walked and it was just us. I cried walking up the isle until I locked eyes with my FS. Once I saw him standing there proudly waiting to marry me, it was all I needed. I felt strong and happy. You might get so wrapped up in the moment that you won't even notice if you cry or not. Just be happy and go with the "flow". Happy wedding!

I'm worried that I will start crying. FH and I have been together for 8 years and have been anticipating this day for years!! And we'll finally get to be married!! We already feel like we are married in our hearts and in God's eyes but it will be socially and legally recognized.

I think that FH will cry... he can be pretty emotional when it comes to certain things and our relationship is one of them. I could see him crying Smiley smile But, I think that it's very, very sweet when the groom cries. Within reason, of course. If he looks like a pansy, not so much. lol!!

Just wear lots and lots of waterproof mascara and reapply after the ceremony!! Smiley smile

He cried when he was saying his vows and I cried when I was saying mine.
