Is anyone else not hiring a florist?

Kiah, on March 15, 2018 at 3:37 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 60

I was never big on the idea of spending thousands on a disposable thing like flowers, and they were never top priority on my list.

For centerpieces, I really love candles, twinkle lights, and tall vases. My original plan was to have do submerged flowers in vases of different sizes with floating candles and then have some tea candles and flower petals around the base on the table. However, my wedding planner told me that one of the florists she spoke with quoted her at $125+ per centerpiece, even with only 1 flower per vase. Now I'm thinking of foregoing the flowers and just doing candles, vases, lights, and rose petals. My wedding planner said that she and her team can help me create the right look and will assemble the centerpieces the day of the wedding (filling the vases with water, lighting the candles, etc.).

I know opinions are divided over fake flowers. I was hesitant until I went to a wedding with beautiful bouquets made with fake flowers. I already made the bridesmaids' bouquets, and I absolutely love them! I still need boutonnieres, but my fiance really just wants a simple red rose. I think we could make them or just order them through a local florist and pick them up the day before the wedding.

I would like to have rose petals on the tables in the reception and lining the aisle at the ceremony, and ideally it would be nice to have a few flowers here and there, but I'm not sure I really need a florist. Did anyone else choose to not hire a florist? If so, who's taking care of those decor details? Any thoughts or tips? I am also getting married out-of-town due to a recent relocation for work. Live in FL, getting married in Philly close to family and friends (we're both from NJ), so that complicates things a little. Any advice would be super helpful, thanks!

We honestly don't have many flowers incorporated within our decorations. We are thinking the same as you why spend thousands for flowers when they die within a week or two anyways. We put that money towards a really good photographer and videographer but that was what's most important to us. We do have some floral throughout the centerpieces but every centerpiece will be a little different so some tables may not have any flowers to help cut down cost and will have more candles or jars in its place.

No florist here. I figured out what I thought was pretty and got my game plan together.

Currently I am not planning on hiring a florist. We are getting married out of town but plan on making the bridesmaids flowers and groomsmen boutonnieres. We are doing a celebration once we get back and I have found approximately **** things on pinterest I *think* my bridesmaids and I can do.... at least 1 of them is bound to work out right? I love flowers but the more I look at the cost of floral decorations the more I'm determined to do it myself lol!!! Are your bridesmaids willing to have a couple nights to help craft something up?

We weren't going to do a florist but I started having horrible nightmares about our florals falling apart as I walked down the aisle.

We did personal flowers only with a florist and picked up instead of having them delivered so it was under $500. We did succulent, china/silver/crystal on top of doilies and vintage books. I preorganized all of our centerpieces that were color coded with small stickers on them with photographers and diagrams for the DOC to use to assemble them.

We are not using a florist - our bouquets are all being ordered off of Costco.com. My centerpieces are greenery w/ flameless candles, the greenery & mums for the entrance of the barn we are picking up at the farm the day before.

No florist here! I got all fake flowers from Hobby Lobby. My centerpieces are going to be 3 different vases with submerged flowers and a tealight, so basically what you described. I also have 9 bridesmaids. I probably only spent $250 total on all of the flowers.

My sisters best friend made all my bouquets and bouts for the guys. I did all my centerpieces and the only flowers we used were submerged in half the centerpieces. I don't think it's worth the money they ask for. Sorry just my opinion.

We aren’t doing flowers except for bouquets, boutonnières. We were going to ask the grocery store floral department to do those but we actually were approached by a close family friend who wanted to do them. My center pieces are jars with the floral marbles in my colors and water w/ floating candles. We’re basic & have a rustic look so they will be on wood slabs w/ a twine bow. I got my flower girl nylon petals so I saved there 1k petals for $8 on amazon. Maybe you could do that for your petals? Good luck with whatever you decide!

Not hiring! Just doing my own flowers. Really not super hard, just takes a little time, and some patience.

I'm excited to start working on them actually.

I'm either doing them myself a day or two before and/or going through Costco/Whole Foods/Sams. I'm taking a Creative Flower Arrangements class at the Botanical Gardens (in St. Louis, MO) next weekend to get a little professional training on how its done. I could not force myself to spend all that money on a florist when I could pay a small class fee to learn on my own Smiley smile

I know you don't have any pro-pics, but do you have any? I'd love to see these!

    I’m not hiring!
I am making the bouquets out of fake flowers myself, and my aunt is graciously providing her own hydrangeas for any extra floral decorating I want to do! I’m also grabbing some fake eucalyptus garland from hobby lobby.

Same as you, the only thing that I might hire a local florist for would be for boutonnières.

I deleted so many because I had handed them over to the DOC but here's some. I know they are pathetic but y'all have heard my sob photographer story a hundred times.

In the third picture the propped up notebook is our "table numbers" which were blank notebooks for our guests to write notes for us to read on our anniversary that corresponds with their table number.

My wedding planner said she could do a few florals for us if we kept it simple, so we're forgoing a florist and keeping it to three bouquets of then stems of calla lilies, and a handful of calla lily bouts. Smiley smile

I've done a lot of research and decided to do mines myself. If you know you can create your vision, I would recommend doing it yourself. It's saving me so mich money instead of hiring a florest. There are even some websites that you can get artificial flowers that look almost real, if that's something you're thinking about. Good luck in which ever one you choose. 😊

We aren't using a florist. We are using more greenery than flowers, and the few flowers we do use are all going to be white, so arranging them won't be incredibly difficult. My cousin, who is also a bridesmaid, used to work in a florist shop and she will be helping out.

We are doing candelabras from michael's craft store for center pieces. That way I can turn around and sell them in bulk to someone on a wedding facebook page hahaha
