Is anyone else not hiring a florist?

I was never big on the idea of spending thousands on a disposable thing like flowers, and they were never top priority on my list.

For centerpieces, I really love candles, twinkle lights, and tall vases. My original plan was to have do submerged flowers in vases of different sizes with floating candles and then have some tea candles and flower petals around the base on the table. However, my wedding planner told me that one of the florists she spoke with quoted her at $125+ per centerpiece, even with only 1 flower per vase. Now I'm thinking of foregoing the flowers and just doing candles, vases, lights, and rose petals. My wedding planner said that she and her team can help me create the right look and will assemble the centerpieces the day of the wedding (filling the vases with water, lighting the candles, etc.).

I know opinions are divided over fake flowers. I was hesitant until I went to a wedding with beautiful bouquets made with fake flowers. I already made the bridesmaids' bouquets, and I absolutely love them! I still need boutonnieres, but my fiance really just wants a simple red rose. I think we could make them or just order them through a local florist and pick them up the day before the wedding.

I would like to have rose petals on the tables in the reception and lining the aisle at the ceremony, and ideally it would be nice to have a few flowers here and there, but I'm not sure I really need a florist. Did anyone else choose to not hire a florist? If so, who's taking care of those decor details? Any thoughts or tips? I am also getting married out-of-town due to a recent relocation for work. Live in FL, getting married in Philly close to family and friends (we're both from NJ), so that complicates things a little. Any advice would be super helpful, thanks!

I'm using faux flowers and got a great deal from a local florist! I plan on using my bouquet as a centerpiece (in a vase) on our coffee table afterwards!
I didn't want the extra hassle of making my own bouquets. There's so much else to do but if you have the time and creativity, go for it! I've been told no one remebers the flowers. It's all about the food and music! Lol

We will be using a grocery store florist for the wedding party bouquets and groomsmen. Other than that, not really any flowers at our wedding.

We're not doing a florist. I'm making my all of the bouquets (mine and BM's). I got all of my flowers from Jo Ann Fabrics (while they were on sale and had a coupon to save even more)

I'm not using floral in my centerpieces so I don't even need to worry about that just for the bouquets.

🙋🏼‍♀️ We are not doing a-n-y real flowers at all for our wedding! Nor will there be any flower centerpieces!!! I did all the bouquets from flowers from Michaels and Joanns!

Our centerpieces will be all candles! Different heights and sizes! We’re going for a more romantic vintage relaxed ceremony and thought the candles would be perfect!

I had the same thought as you. I just couldn’t get myself to spend so much money on Centerpieces that would die a week later. I bought a sola wood bouquet which is absolutely gorgeous! And for centerpieces we are doing potted succulents/flowers in a galvanized bucket. That way people can take them home, replant them or keep them alive in the pot.

Oh also, my mom was SO against fake flowers since that’s the one thing she regrets from her wedding.
We recently relocated as well so my mom and dad are actually tasked with the potting and transportation of the flowers. They really wanted to do something but I didn’t want them stressing too much. This way they can do it the week before without stress. Best for everyone! Sometimes you have to take up your local friends and family’s offer to help you when you’re out of town.

No real flowers here. They are so expensive. These are my centrepiece. Found the vase in amazon for 17 dollars each and fake flowers from Michael's on sale for six dollars. Save your money girl!

We're doing nonfloral centrepieces and just hiring a florist for the wedding party and parents flowers which will be under $500.

Our centrepieces are sort of similar to MrsBdeGs (you have great taste Smiley heart ) but a little more alice in wonderlandish. It's still old books and teapots/teacups with plants coming out of them, but just put together a bit differently (playing cards for table numbers etc).

No florist! I ordered real silk flowers for bouquets and boutineers, used some floral tape and ribbon to put them together. For center pieces we have a favor bucket with a ribbon bow, a large painted number, and a candle holder with glitter and ribbon on the outside with rocks and a tea light on the inside. These centerpieces are also going to be on top of a mirror. Our colors are navy, mint, and silver so half of the centerpieces have mint ribbons with a navy number and the other half have navy ribbons with a mint number. We're also having half the tables have mint napkins and the other half have navy so that way on the tables there is an equal amount of each color.

We did not hire a florist. We had real flowers ordered from costco.com (my bouquet, MOH bouquet, and boutonniere) and fake flowers were ordered from afloral, amazon, aliexpress (centerpieces, arch, aisle) - my wedding photos .

I agree not a big fan of flowers so definitely not using a florists. Will get the flowers that will be used from a wholesale supplier.

I had to fire my florist. As an alternative I ordered dried bouquets from etsy instead. I got everything I needed for my centerpieces (10 tables), bouquets, and boutineres for less than $300.

I will throw in the disclaimer that we are having a small wedding so we didn't need a lot but I found that dried bouquets were way less expensive and actually quite fitting for what I wanted.

Sigh. I have a florist and she’s very talented, but it is going way over what I wanted to spend. My venue hires the event designer/florist...and then you work with them. I too would rather spend money on other things. So I think you’re doing the right thing.

My SIL and I are doing my flowers (all fake). I have everything I need already for my bouquet, 2 bridesmaids, 9 boutonnières, 8 corsages (I know that’s a lot...FH and I have 7 kids between us, plus parents, etc.!), and a few table decorations, and I’ve spent less than $150. I’m most excited about my bouquet - it’s a huge cascading bouquet that was quoted at over $500 by several florists using fresh flowers.
