Is anyone else wearing flat sandals with their dress?

Traci, on July 20, 2017 at 9:37 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 50

I decided to wear flat sandals with my dress for a few reasons, I don't want to be uncomfortable in heels and I don't really like ballet flats. I was going to get the rose gold ones from David's Bridal but after seeing them in person, I was disappointed. Anyway, a coworker/upcoming wedding guest was asking about the attire at my wedding. I showed her the shoes I picked and she got really judgy.. she made a face at me and was saying they are ok if they won't be seen (they won't be seen btw) and that she is just "more traditional" - I'm really tired of unsolicited opinions. Unfortunately, I'm pretty impressionable and this is the 2nd time I've allowed this person to make me 2nd guess myself..which then leads to me stressing out like crazy. I'm putting a pic below of the shoes, so please let me know if any of you think they are THAT BAD. Also, just to note, this woman is old enough to be my mother, so maybe its just a generation gap. Pic below.

Also, if sandals may seem odd for Fall.. It might be worth noting that I live in Arizona where we don't really have seasons and it will likely be warm.

I think they are lovely! Don't stress about what people say. I'm having a country style wedding in northern AZ and I'm wear casual flats! I hate heels and wouldn't want to be uncomfortable. We are doing some beach photos so I'll probably have my shoes off a lot too Smiley smile

I LOVE those. I don't understand why your coworker made the face. They are dressy sandals so wedding appropriate. Thank you for explaining your location - that was helpful.

More importantly, do you love them? Have you tried them on with your dress yet?

I am wearing sandals for my 10/7 wedding. It is outside and didn't want to worry about sinking into the ground or walking around in uncomfortable shoes all day. I say go for it! You will be on your feet most of the day/evening so wear what is comfortable for you!

I am definitely wearing my birkenstocks at either the reception or ceremony. I haven't decided yet. I'm also getting married at a camp though so heels don't make a lot of sense.

I would stop talking to that girl about your wedding. She sounds extremely judgmental.

Love the shoes! I'm wearing heels for pictures, ceremony, and dances and then I'm either going barefoot or getting flat sandals as well! I'm all for being comfortable!!

I did and loved them and it was April in Michigan.

I wouldn't go so far as to call it a generational thing--we old people have manners too, some of us. Sometimes Smiley smile

I mean...it really is not that big of a deal...Are they my favorite sandals I've ever seen? probably not, but they are cute enough. Also like you said...they wont be seen! I wore lower heels for my ceremony and changed into ballet flats for reception. I wore the heels for formal pics and for detail shots because I thought they would be seen a whole lot more than they were (my dress had a slit, but had so much flowy fabric it doesn't show in like any pics...)

Even the low heels got uncomfortable for me. If I would have realized how little it mattered, id have gone with my flats the whole time. Wear sandals if that's what you are comfortable in. If you really aren't sold on that pair, no harm in continuing to shop for another pair.

Wear whatever you want-just make sure the dress is altered according to those shoes. I bought super comfy kitten heels from Cole Haan. What I didn't expect was how much my feet would sweat in the 85 degree heat, while walking around town for photos, and start causing blisters (I've got shoes that I've had for years and once my feet start to sweat they'll cause blisters). I had sandals to change into that totally didn't go with the dress but i didn't care at all! Thankfully because my Cole haans were super tiny heels I didn't have any issue with length of my dress! But definitely go sandals if it's what you want!

I really wanted to, but I got talked out of it. I have six months so we will see what happens! If you don't want a heel, Betsey Johnson has her Blue collection with tons of gorgeous flats and sandals in white!

I am not wearing heels, and am planning on flats similar to yours. Your coworker sounds like a real ass, is she usually a judgmental person? Wear whatever makes you comfortable Smiley smile

I also plan to wear flats mostly because FH will be shorter than me if i wear any sort of heel... Smiley sad plus heels are super uncomfortable for me. So super cute flats it will be! Iv seen some brides wear a soft kind of slipper for the reception.

I think your shoes are awesome and so cute!

You're going to be on your feet a lot. Do what makes you comfortable.

I'd rock those sandles with no shame regardless of who saw!

@Nonna T, I didn't mean to offend. When I said generation gap, I didn't mean older people are rude lol I meant, maybe just the older generation thinks sandals aren't formal enough.

Ohhh OP I love your shoes!! I definitely don't think there is anything wrong with flat sandals. I am wearing lower block heels (b/c FH is short and our ceremony is on the sand) but I'll be changing into flat sandals afterwards for dancing! Definitely don't listen to this woman. I am sick of getting unsolicited opinions, too. Also, what even are "traditional" wedding shoes? Heels? I feel like wedding shoes run the gamut.

None taken, Traci Smiley smile I jump to that when I see it here sometimes (chip on my shoulder- rarely has anyone made a remark to me about it).

So just as I told my mom she would live when I did things she didn't/wouldn't, I will tell you, too...eff them, they'll live!

    And those sandals are beautiful!

I love yours! They're very pretty.

I am wearing sandals! I do not want to be uncomfortable the day of, I never wear heels in my regular life. Plus my FH isn't crazy tall so I want to stay the same height. Here are mine from David's Bridal and I love them
