Is anyone having a geeky/nerdy wedding?

The fiancee and I are geeky people. Actually got together because of our mutual love of Stargate, and plan on having the fandoms that we are a part of be represented in the reception. Anyone else doing anything like that?

We are doing a lot of geeky touches. We wanted a lot of subtle touches. All the guys are wearing superhero undershirts and socks. The girls will each have a Mickey Bobby pin or two in their hair and our bouquets will have a Mickey on the wrap. Our table names are movie posters from disney movies, superhero TV shows and Star Wars. Our rings and the pint glass favors are engraved with "I love you..." "...I know". I'm walking into Harry in Winter from Harry Potter and the bp is walking into a disney song. FHs nana is making a cupcake stand for us that includes a Lenox figurine of bridal Mickey and Minnie in a car. Our photobooth strips are superhero themed. One of our readings is a quote about love from Neil DeGrasse Tyson.

We had Dr. Who touches worked into our day. Our guest book and cake topper included the Tardis, my hair comb had a Tardis and our grooms cake was a 3-D Dalek. We also had Gallifreyan writing on the front of our vow books, and a Tardis candle holder on our head table. We found Dr. Who themed drinks and printed a sign off for up at the bar and the koozies DH's grandpa gifted us for favors had the Tardis on one side of them. We also framed the engagement card that MOH drew for us that featured a bride and groom Dalek.

We are having a Jurassic Park theme!!! I am walking down to a slow version of the theme song, each table is named after a dinosaur, we have the bride and groom dinosaurs as part of our centerpieces, we are entering the reception to the main song, and our seating chart will probably be the map of the park with everyone's names on it (we are still trying to figure that out). We can't wait!!!

We are doing a batman theme. Our cake topper and garter are batman. The tables will be named after villains. And I also made all the glasses for the BP with their names and batman symbols on them.

We had subtle touches as well. I walked into "Tristan and Yvaine" from Stardust, the boys had boutonnieres made out of comic book pages and I also mixed comic book roses into the bridesmaid bouquets, we had wedding Mickey ears on our head table, we had Pop figures on every table, I did the bouquet toss to the Cantina Song from Star Wars, and the boys brought lightsabers to do pictures and video with. We also had Harry Potter references in our vows (which we both did without consulting with each other), because I always call him the badger to my snake and vice versa.

Well our cake idea became cupcakes. Now we are having Guardians of the Galaxy themed cupcakes (our first date), cassette tape rice krispie treats, and capt. America shield/Peggy carter cookies (FH is obsessed with Cap). We narrowed down the song we enter the reception to. It's either gonna be the Back to the Future theme song or the Capt America theme song.

Our budget was under $3K, so we skipped a lot of the places most nerdy weddings get really nerdy-- no cake, tiny guest list so no table numbers or seating chart, no favors, no designated rooms for the two of us to get ready, minimal decor (Trader Joe's flowers, and I decorated mason jars we already had with lace and ribbon and put floating candles in them for combination aisle decor/centerpieces). Plus even though W is pretty nerdy I don't think she would have gone for a theme wedding. It wouldn't have fulfilled her sap requirements.

We got super nerdy with the music, though. Processional was the Star Trek Voyager theme, recessional was "Twilight Run" from Steven Universe. Things that showed up in the rest of the music include Star Wars, West Wing, Trine, Transistor, Portal 2, The Sims, a metric fuckton of musicals, and Ma Rainey's "Prove It On Me Blues". Those last two might be stretching the definition of "nerdy" a bit but I contend you can totally be nerdy about musicals and LGBT music history.

I LOVE this thread! We are super board gamers! We are not planning an all-out geek wedding (we're both a bit traditional) but are incorporating many small things. The largest, I suppose, being our guest book. We are purchasing a(nother) copy of Carcassonne and each guest will sign a tile. After, we will both put it together and frame it. Our cake topper will be a bird and squirrel sitting atop a wooden companion cube.

We are Whovians, love Marvel and Star Wars (who doesn't? lol). We used to play a lot of video games (Orange Box Bests baby!) but having a toddler has slowed that down. Resident Evil was the convo that got is talking (movies and game). We settle all disputes in our household through Stars Wars X-Wing or Netrunner ; )

FH actually proposed to me using our play through of Pandemic Legacy. It was perfect! He made his own 'Event' card and email transmission.

    Subtle touches, yes!

Most recently, considering adding a Howarts house pin to FH's boutonniere and my bouquet!

FH's ring is engraved with 'soulbound' on the inner band. We met in World of Warcraft. We dont have any other nods to WoW in the wedding, but I thought this was a cute little nod to how we met that was just between us.

Almost_MLF We are big gamers too!! Our guest book is going to be a Jenga game where guests sign the blocks! Also our centerpieces are going to be board games so guests can play them while we take pictures during cocktail hour and if they want they can take a board game home (those who grab one quick enough).

My fiancé and I are planning a geology themed wedding. Our save the dates were geology themed. Our tables will be named after minerals and have minerals on them, and our cake will have a geode on top.

I'm gonna try to incorporate a disney theme in ours. Not the end of the world if we can't though.

    @Almost_MLF...you guys rock.

We are Def trying to find ways to incorporate our love for Marvel, Doctor Who, Star wars, Zelda, Flash and Arrow into our wedding. It's rough. Lol. We recently decided on our wedding bands being the Stargate. It's how we connected, and we just...don't like the thought of a traditional band.

We're having an Oktoberfest themed wedding, but the traditional German stuff lends itself well to adding some nerdy-fantasy stuff too. Probably some of our cocktail hour music will be subtle nods to some fantasy fandoms (e.g., Rains of Castamere or Concerning Hobbits), and we may have FH's blacksmith uncle (who really looks like a large dwarf) make our wedding bands and present them at the ceremony...

We are! We're doing a classic wedding meets woodland with small touches of geekiness here and there. Our table toppers are going to be a collection of FH and I's favorite books, I'm hoping to walk down the aisle to something nerdy since I hate the "here comes the bride" song.

Still in the early planning stages, but I am having fun planning along the way! Smiley smile

Hello! I would love to incorporate dice and meeples into a unity ceremony for our wedding. I’ve been scouring the internet for ideas but haven’t found much, mind sharing what you did??

I had to try to remember my password! I'm glad I did! Here is a GIF of us actually combining the items (well, it was SUPPOSED to be a gif, but it apparently didn't upload that way).

It was supposed to be one of us pouring the gray dice/meeples and the other pouring the blue dice/meeples, but everything ended up getting mixed... Which made it easier as there was no way to tell which ones were poured in by either of us (since that is the whole point of the unity ceremony). It's been six years, and I still haven't finished the project... my intention is to seal the vase with resin.

And here is a photo where you can see what it looked like when everything was done... Sorry it is out of focus. It's a cropped image of me talking to some family members, where the vase was in the foreground.
