Is anyone wearing fresh flowers in their hair?

Julia Beth, on March 21, 2014 at 8:50 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 11

So I've been on Etsy favoriting the heck out of all the pretty flower fascinators. I want something to wear in my hair that isn't sparkly (more sparkle would probably be too much with my big ole chandelier earrings). I was pretty set on ordering something from there eventually, but I was out with MOH last night and she suggested fresh flowers.

I LOVE THE IDEA, but didn't know you could do that? Have any of you done that, and if so, how did it work out? Or is anyone planning on fresh flowers for your hair? Is your florist attaching a flower(s) to a hair pin for you? Have you talked to your hair stylist about it?

Any info is helpful. Thanks Smiley smile

Im not sure if its just because im doing a destination wedding and it will be hot, but I've seen lots of posts saying to get silk for your hair becuase it will wilt quickly and look bad pin pics. Im DIYing my flowers so ill just attach a few flowers to a pin myself.

That is definitely a thought. My wedding is in July, it will be hot here too. I wonder if there are any flowers that hold up better than others.

Im standing up in a wedding in June and my friend is doing that. From what I saw from her hair trial, it looked very pretty. I dont know the logistics of how her stylist did it, but you should talk to yours.

She did also say though, that she wasn't sure the flowers would hold up for the reception so her plan is to have them for the ceremony only.

@Truffle - maybe I could replace the fresh one with a fake one for the reception. Or maybe this is just not the best idea, lol!

I wouldn't go through the hassle of switching from real to fake. Get a quality silk or real touch so you dont have the stress of switching and buying two. No one will notice its not real, especially in the photos and you will know its going to stay pretty :-)

I think NLeo had the best idea to use silk or real touch. That way you dont have to worry about switching them out and messing your hair up.

Florists make floral crowns though, and those seem to hold up. Its another option!

I am using a silk flower in my hair, because real flowers can be heavy, they start to wilt after a couple of hours, and sometimes just don't stay put, especially after you start dancing or moving around a lot.

@NLeo-- if you don't mind my asking, what is real touch?

It's probably worth it to go fake if it's going to save me even the tiniest bit of stress!

I am doing a flower crown with fake flowers (see the pic below). My mom did it when she got married and my fiancee actually told me he'd like to see me wear one. You should consider a flower crown, they're really pretty.

I am actually doing real flowers in my hair. My florist is attaching orchids to a clear, comb that will work with my hairstyle (my hairstylist ok'd this). I'm only doing it because my ceremony & reception will be in an air conditioned building. If yours is outside I would have to agree with everyone else and get silk or real touch flowers. You could also try looking for a gold or silver comb with a pretty design on it too. Good luck!

Hello! I just got married and wore fresh flowers and loved (most) of my pictures, however, I highly recommend doing a trial run and just pay for two hair pieces from your florist. My florist had a bunch of photos to go by and lots of room to change the design in order to create something pretty and classy, however, the end result made me look like an alien from outer space with two roses sticking up from my head. I asked for feedback and if the clip I gave them was OK and was told all was well, however, I would have made some major changes had I seen the piece before the wedding day, so pay extra and know what you're getting!
