So I got engaged on Christmas. We're getting married May 13.

Went wedding dress shopping & realized how extra "fluffy" I've become.

SO I joined Planet Fitness & now after one month (of not going regularly)....

I'm up 3 pounds!

Eeeeek!

I tried a barre workout yesterday & it was HARD. (I was the only one in class who couldn't do a proper sit-up.)

So I'm going to try their first month promotion....after that it's CRAZY expensive.

Is it worth it?

I need to slim my upper body (arms, shoulders, upper back) abs I certainly need to lose some of my tummy poof.

I feel like this will be a good workout for that.... but it's crazy expensive.

Anyone have personal experience?

Did barre help you?

Has anyone done it and then NOT seen results?

I take barre class, only once a week, and I definitely feel like it helps tone me up. Personally, I feel SUPER hungry the morning/day after I take the class and I'm usually pretty sore, so you have to be conscious that you aren't over eating.

For me, it makes my muscles more tired and sore than when I was training for a half marathon. So yeah, it works, but like everyone else is saying, you need to watch what you're eating or it won't matter.

Weight loss is something around 80% diet and 20% exercise. calories in/calories out is a good basic starting point, however you can't exercise away a bad diet. If your body can't use the calories available efficiency, it'll choose to store before burn. Focus on proteins, good fats (avocado, peanut butter, coconut oil, etc), and veggies. Fats don't actually make you fat, carbs do. A change that is too drastic likely won't stick, so don't beat yourself up for slipping here and there. Cardio is good for your heart and will burn lots of calories while you're doing it, but interval workouts will have more of a lasting effect on your metabolism. A point to remember is that upping your exercise will make you feel hungrier than usual. Don't deny your body food when it tells you it needs it. Listening to your body will help you reach the weight that your body is healthy at. Choose healthier options to keep your body functioning at its best and keep your energy high for more effective workouts, and try to figure out what nutrient your body is craving if you find yourself craving something specific (if the craving is healthy-fill it! If not, everything is good in moderation, but could just be sugar addiction).

Another thing that not many people know that affects metabolism/ability for weight loss is spinal alignment. Your organs/glands that are necessary for regulating your metabolism can't work properly if the nerves that feed them are pinched. I highly suggest finding a Maximized Living chiropractor near you. They'll x-ray your spine and can pretty much tell you what issues you're experiencing just by looking at the x-ray and nerve stress test. Chiropractors with Maximized Living are also trained in nutrition and fitness and are an awesome all-in-one resource for slimming down. I just started seeing one a couple months ago and I LOVE it. Plus, he's gotten me almost to the point of not needing my antidepressants or ADHD medication anymore Smiley smile

Diet is 80% of the battle. Try eating clean. Reevaluate everything you consume. It makes a big difference

I love barre! It is exlensive but I go 4-5 times a week so it's less than $10 a class.

And diet is an important factor. Last year I lost about 10 lbs over 4 months by just changing my diet ( well not changing but being more mindful).

I'm obsessed with my barre studio (The Barre Code) and go several times a week, but I only credit barre classes for my body shape and toning, not weight or size. If I only did barre, I would be strong, but not skinny. To actually lose weight, you need to diet and do intense cardio, like running. If you're already thin enough, barre will be great for toning.

If you can afford a membership, spending $100-$200 per month on fitness is the same cost as one or two nights going out and will make you so much happier. If that's out of your budget, find fitness programs and videos online that are free.
