Is having wedding nightmares normal?

Nicole, on September 6, 2016 at 5:17 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 16

We've been actively planning our wedding for 7 months. Ive known my FH for 23 years as this is his 1st marriage my 2nd. We were middle/ high school sweethearts who parted ways and fell back in love 9 years ago and had 3 beautiful children since. For the past few nights Ive been having these terrifying nightmares about our wedding. In each one of them nobody is there. In my 1st nightmare it was just us and the bridal party at the reception. No decorations, no photographer no guests! My 2nd nightmare our wedding fell on the same day as his cousins (whom recently just got married) the FBI showed up. I have no idea what any of this means but its all seems so realistic during the time Im dreaming of it. Can someone please tell me this is normal, as I do not remember this happening during my 1st marriage

Relax. Try reading or other relaxing activity before bed

Stress is creeping into your dreams. Try and clear your mind before bed Smiley smile

It's just stress. I have nightmares often (high anxiety person), sometimes about real life stress, and sometimes it's about zombies (wtf brain?) For me, planning something not real while laying in bed helps. Like: floor plan of my dream home, or how I would use my lottery winnings, or 5 wishes, or if I had a magical power.

Yes I get these sometimes! It is totally "normal", but not fun. Try to relax before bed. Bath bombs or have FH massage you?

I tend to have wedding nightmares, especially when I do planning right before bed. I had a dream that no one showed up (not even our parents) when I was looking at STDs and invites. When I was waiting to get my dress in I dreamed it was 6 sizes too small (even though I had lost weight since purchasing). When I started searches for H/MUA I dreamed that the lady called me the day of the wedding saying she wasn't going to show up.

All that said, they are perfectly normal!

I have had multiple nightmares. Usually having to do with my appearance... Like I went to walk down the aisle and realized I forgot to get my hair and makeup done. Like anyone would just forget that... haha! I think it's just stress and too much going on in your head. Also, the wedding is probably on your mind the most lately so it'll come out in your dreams.

Your story is pretty similar to mine! I got married two months ago but had known my DH since 8th grade. We are in our mid thirties now. I married right out of highschool and was divorced by 23. Then DH and I got together. This is his first marriage too.

Anyways to answer your question. This is completely normal! I had some wild wedding nightmares myself. I think, in my case, this being my second wedding, it caused me to worry more. Just try to relax. Everything will be fine. Have a glass of wine before bed!

Yes it's normal. My most recent was the queen of England was at our wedding but left cuz we were so late and it was taking to long. Then we got.past the ceremony and it was taking hours to feed everyone so I got mad and left to.go.to the hotel and someone had been murdered in our room. Went back to the reception 4 hours later to tell FH and everyone still wasn't fed and the murder showed up and took people hostage. Then I woke up. Have to say it was definitely one of my more entertaining wedding dreams lol.

It's absolutely normal yes Smiley smile I just woke up from one of mine. FH and I woke up at 6pm on our wedding day, having missed all the getting ready process and the church ceremony. So we were rushing to beg the church to do the ceremony anyway, and I had no make up on because my MUA will be working on a tight schedule that day, and I caught a glimpse of my face and I looked like death and the veil I had on wasn't the veil I ordered, and the church couldn't marry us, and I kept thinking of all my friends who came from abroad who would miss the postponed wedding.

Another dream was the "nobody showed up" dream. That one wasn't as stressful but it was so depressing.

I second reading before bed! Last night I was on my phone before falling asleep. Electronic devices make things worse.

Oh! Im here right now because of a wedding nightmare.

I had the ceremony and someone called me for a work meeting. So I went to the church conference room to see some tv commercials (I work in an advertising agency). After I think like 2 hours I said, hey I need to go back to my wedding. So I went back and I see my photographer that he didnt took pics of me through the aisle. And then MOH told me that I didnt work on the seating chart and I didnt have even Table Numbers or the props for the photobooth so we went back to my house to pick a couple of things.... Uuughhh

What I hate about these dreams is that they are super active- Im always running or super preocuppied, and always dream with so many small details and colors that is exhausting Smiley sad

I had some dreams like this too! One dream, I overslept and missed the entire wedding, arrived to find another persons wedding taking place at the venue and was totally embarrassed and heartbroken, wondering if FH would still marry me. The reception at least had taken place without me, and I was freaking out wondering if anyone in my family would show up for another wedding. Another dream, my gown was delivered on the day of as I was standing in a hotel lobby hiding in the plants in my underwear waiting. The wrong gown was delivered (wrong size, wrong style) as were all the other dresses (BM & MOB dresses were awful Barney purple dresses with cut outs and cheap material) and again, I missed my own wedding. I think I had these dreams because my biggest fear is not being able to get up in time for my wedding; I have a chronic illness and getting up early can be very difficult. I also had some fears about not being able to find a dress in the size or style I liked, and I worry my dress won't be altered in time for my wedding, so I believe these dreams are my brain's way of dealing with those fears. I think it's normal to have dreams like this leading up to the wedding. It's probably just the subconscious preparing us for our weird fears about the wedding day and any worst case scenarios (however far fetched they may be!) but I don't think it means anything bad about your relationship or anything like that. It's just jitters about the wedding day going smoothly Smiley smile

When i was getting addresses and getting my guest list together i kept having nightmares that no one showed up, i forgot to send invitations, i didn't know any of my guests that came etc. I stopped working on the list for a few days thinking i was stressing too much over it. It kept happening. FH said maybe you're stressing cause you don't have all of the addresses. He was right! I finished the list and the nightmares went away....for now

I just woke up from one. It was super bizarre. The biggest wtf in the dream was I couldn't get the false eyelashes to stick and look good ON MY TOENAILS. Wtf?

Yes! I had one last night. In mine, I forgot to put on my wedding dress and was just wearing casual clothes.

The nightmares are totally normal, I think it's just our brains dealing with the stress.

I think it's pretty normal. The other night I had a dream that I was extremely late. Our house was not ready so we had to book a hotel to get ready at the last minute, but we forgot to tell the makeup artist. In the end we missed the first look pics, my hair wasnt done at 7 pm and the wedding was supposed to start at 5 pm. It was a complete and utter mess.
