Is it considered too early?

Sophi, on January 21, 2020 at 12:37 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9

Hi all!

FH and I have set our date for March 6, 2021.

Both of our schedules are really hectic during the week (I'm a teacher, he's work in HR) so all of our wedding planning is delegated to the weekend. In the midsts of this, one of my cousins has just started chemo, so my FH and I are trying to include her in as much of the planning as possible to help keep her mind off things and such.

In an effort to be inclusive, I'm planning to start dress shopping the second week of April because I will be on Spring Break and she will have taken a pause from her treatments.

That leaves 11 months until the wedding and ample time for alterations. Though, part of me is thinking dress shopping in April is too soon to start? Is there actually a time that is considered too soon anyways?

I went dress shopping 13 months prior because that’s what fit best into my schedule, so I see no problem at all with you going dress shopping whenever. And it’s very sweet to include your cousin and plan it around her break in treatments too. Congrats to you and good luck to your cousin!

I went dress shopping nearly two years ahead because it's what worked for me and bringing my mom, grandmom, and aunt! Unless you're the kind of person who will second guess themself, I don't think it's too early. 😊 The dress sets a tone for the theme of the day and it's nice to know one of the important things are out of the way.

Definitely not too soon! Some dresses can take 6+ months to come in and then you need time for alterations. Then there is less pressure to find the perfect dress the first time you go shopping!

It is never too soon to dress shop. My wedding dress was set to take 6-9 months to come in! It came in this week at 5 1/2.

The only real issue with going this early that that you're leaving a wider period of time for your dress size to fluctuate--that's why they usually recommend buying the dress about 7ish months in advance. This isn't something that everyone runs into, but it's something to be aware of.

Definitely not too early! I'm getting married May 2021 and the dress has to be ordered by the end of April to give it enough time to get here and alterations. Good luck dress shopping!

11 months is definitely not too early to go dress shopping! That'll give you plenty of time for your dress to come in. I got my dress last March for my Leap Day wedding.

I started shopping 13 months out, bought my dress 10 months out. It arrived 7 months later!
