Is it normal for Flower girl or some BM to miss rehearsal?

Bee, on May 8, 2013 at 9:58 PM Posted in Planning 0 20

The flower girl doesnt want to come because it is "fun day" at her school, and the junior bridesmaid goes to the same school so she is not coming. :-/ I was hoping they would come but then again I dont see this being a big issue, but I kinda wanted to check with you all because its one of those things I know someone out there will have a good answer on. They are both around 9 years old. Are they ok to wing it ya think?

Thanks

It's not a big issue. Have a stand-in or figure out how long the aisle is and have them practice the pace needed some other time. It's just walking.

This happens, no big deal. Assign one of your BMs to fill them before the ceremony.

No a big deal at all. Sometimes it happens. The main thing is you and FH are there!

Lol Tom, at nine years old! Go figure! :-D

Okay thanks everyone, I figured it wasn't a big deal but I wanted to check with you because occasionally you all come up with things I never would have thought of and you save my butt. You are my wedding planners now! :-) Thanks!

I don't think it's a big deal (FH was a GM once and didn't attend the RD because we had to fly down late)... those "fun days" are never actually fun though so I can't believe they are trying to go to that! haha

I am a bit worried that my FG wont be coming to our rehearsal, but I think everything will be fine.

    Thanks rev. fuller! :-)

*One more question for you- Is it normal for the Officiant not to come to the rehearsal? He said he talks with you over the phone for an hour and you do the rehearsal yourself. I was a little worried but he has good reviews on WW

If your FG was under 5 years old, there sometimes can be a lot of nerves and little shy. But your post says that they are closer to 9 years old. It would really help the younger ones if they did walk through it, so they are able to do the same with everybody watching them. I am sure everything will go fine...but the ring bearer or FG's are the ones that recommend come to rehearsal the most. Just to be able to help their comfort level.

^ Totally agree. My nephews were fine during the rehearsal but then got SUPER shy during my sister's ceremony.

Ooo, I'm glad this question was asked/answered! Thanks ladies!

Our FGs are both 9 and live over an hour away from our venue. Our rehearsal has to be on a Thursday evening (wedding is Sunday afternoon) and we aren't sure the FGs will be able to come because of a late night/school the next day.

I think it will be okay though since they basically just have to walk down the aisle and stand Smiley winking

I've been married twice, and never had a rehearsal at all. You'll be fine.

Wow good point about them getting shy the flower girl is extremely shy already, pretty much every time I see her I ask ur a few questions like how are you doing how's school she's never said a single word to me. it might just be easier to pop her in at the last minute I think. I wouldn't have even asked because she so shy accept that mother in law wanted her to do it

I'm worried about a similar issue with a few of my older wedding party. Cause one of the groomsmen and his wife (one of my BM) and another groomsmen are truck drivers and I'm afraid they won't be home for rehearsal night.
