Is it normal to pay the Florist 2 weeks in advance?

Sarah, on April 13, 2016 at 11:44 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 20

My florist is asking for the final payment two weeks in advance of the wedding. Is it normal to pay for all the flowers before I see them?

Yes, I never even saw my florist the day of so I have no idea how I would have paid her that day. I was way to busy to go meet her when she dropped the flowers off at the church.

Ok thank you! I didn't want to be rude and ask her!

It's completely normal. It's far too risky for a florist to wait until your wedding day to collect a final payment. In fact, if a florist tells you that you can pay the last payment on your wedding day, she probably doesn't have a lot of experience.

Definitely normal. However when you pay, please go over one more time what you want. I paid and didn't go over my order again, even though we went over it many times and she had pictures of my bouquet i sent her....the day of my wedding I walked into my venue to find a huge part missing to my bouquet and by then it was too late as she was an hour away and were too close to the ceremony to bother. I was disappointed my bridal bouquet didn't look like I had imagined for over a year.

Yes. We sent out first deposit to our florist last week, about 2 months out.

@mimitrue I'm worried about something like that happening, so I will definitely go over everything with her again! Thanks for the tip!

PP have you covered but yes, totally normal. You also won't want to worry about final payments at any point week of.

Yes, most vendors require final payment about 2 weeks prior to the event.

Why not? You're reserving a service. If you didn't pay what keeps you with them? It's a give-take thing. Each party has risk.

Same with my florist. I am perfectly fine with getting my payments out of the way!

Yes, you pay in advance. But there should be clauses in your contract protecting you from malfeasance. Your order should also spell out what you've actually asked for (if you want specific blooms, make sure they're in writing). The contract should outline penalties/refunds if it's incomplete/doesn't match the order/delivery is screwed up.
