Is it ok to decorate your house with personal photos??

Melanie, on July 18, 2017 at 3:07 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 33

Opinions please! I've been looking for ideas for a gallery wall and I have found a few I like. And while we are newlyweds, I would love to have wedding photos on it. Not just of my FH and I, but him with his guys, and me with the girls, and the kids in our lives, etc. obviously as we start a family the pictures will change, it won't be wedding photos forever. But I love pictures and love having them all over my walls. I love being reminded of fun memories. I have been looking online and apparently a lot of people think you shouldn't put pictures on display in public rooms. It's tacky or whatever. I completely disagree. I love pictures in my home and love seeing pictures in friend's homes: But that's just my opinion, I want yours! What do you think?

My room is full of family and engagement pictures. It is your home! decorate how you want!

As long as the pictures aren't offensive or tacky I think they can go in common areas

That is ridiculous. My H and I literally have a shrine wall of our wedding pics and pics from our relationship.

Ain't no shame in my game.

Wow, I definitely thought when I read the thread title you meant, like, PERSONAL photos. lol

I don't think there's anything wrong with displaying wedding photos in your home.

People think this is weird? Huh. I have photos everywhere. I have a canvas of one of our engagement photos hanging in our living room and when we get married i'm getting a canvas of our wedding for over our bed. I'm also a little extra.

FH doesn't like to put a ton of our pics on the walls and on display, however I have a few out and I've received a lot of compliments when people come over so I say go for it! I don't see anything wrong with it

I'd be more weird if there weren't any photos anywhere. The only time I can see this being an issue is if you're trying to sell your house. Then hide most of the personal photos "because you want potential buyers to imagine themselves living here" rather than the current owners.

Otherwise put as many photos you want up!!

You're paying a lot for those photos. Display them! The only time I know of when it's generally a bad idea to display personal photos is when you're trying to sell your home. At that point it's a good idea to remove personal photos to make it easier for potential buyers to picture the home as their own.

I'm a total photo person! We're moving into our new house soon and I can't wait to create a gallery wall with our photos! I agree with @Becky, I'd find it weird if there weren't any photos!

That's really dumb lol, I've never heard of anyone having a problem with personal photos on display. It's your house ha. I can't wait until we have wedding photos to put up.

If it's your home, what you put on the walls is up to you and your FH. Who gives a shit what anyone thinks about it?

As long as it's not you with your cooch and his cock on display, it's your prerogative. Even then, it's still YOUR house. I mean, I would never visit your house again, and I'd tell everyone in the neighborhood you're a weirdo, but you can do whatever the hell you want.

I think you can out pictures wherever you want, it's your home. IMO, please don't put family pictures in a guest bedroom or bathroom because that's awkward...

My house is covered in pictures. We have put some in frames, some in multi picture frames, some printed on canvas, some hung with clothes pins on a twine, every which way!

Who thinks it's tacky? Like which magazine? Who? I've never heard of this and most homes I visit have family pictures. I'm really curious. Had no idea this was a thing.

DH hates taking photos and literally the most recent photo that I have of us is from our wedding because we just don't do them that often, but we still have a photo of us in the living room and a collage type one with some family photos and a few older pictures of us in our dining room. We have (cheap) art and stuff too, but I think it'd be a little weird to not have any pictures around.

If this is tacky then I am beyond tacky, my apartment is covered in pics of me and FH, our friends, and our dog.
