Is it okay to wear black to a wedding?

KM, on October 26, 2013 at 10:13 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 16

I have to go to a wedding today and only had two choices between an appropriate dress to wear. One is a light champagne gold (but sort of on the short side), and the other is black (the one I prefer to wear). Is it okay to wear black to a wedding??

I'd say yes. Just brighten it up with a scarf, jewelry, sweater/jacket.

Yes. I was once a bridesmaid in a black dress, and I'm going to a wedding in April where all of the guests are allowed to wear only black or white.

It's fine. especially if it's a night reception..the champagne sounds a bit too close to white.

When in doubt, choose the black dress! Lol

I've worn black to a wedding. I wear really cute colorful heels and accessories!

Yeah, although I know the bride is wearing white, I don't know what color the bridesmaids are wearing and, go forbid, it's champagne/gold. I'm going with black lol

Yes ma'am, it is fine. I wore a black dress to my cousin's wedding in may.

I've done it and I think it's fine but I do wish I had a pop of color somewhere like others have suggested- like my shoes or jewelry or something.

I pretty much only own black/clothing...

I've done it. I don't see any problem with it. I really don't get this question. To me, it's like asking, "Can I wear blue/red/yellow/green/purple/pink to a wedding?"

I only say don't wear white because a lot of people think the bride should be the only one in white, but other than that, I figure it's all fair game.
