What are we talking in terms of the reception? Venue? Catering? Alcohol? To put it simply, probably not. You may be able to find cheap BBQ or Italian catering for about $10pp, however, that's going to leave you with $1000 for everything else that you need. It's hard to tell without knowing what you do and don't have paid for.

To build off of what caytlyn said it can he done but it depends on what you expect. Throwing a party for 100 people with $2000 is going to be hard. The best way to stick to your budget is to cut the guest list.

You can probably do it if you find cheap catering like Caytlyn said. Also, if you haven't found a reception venue yet, look at unconventional places such as halls (we will probably go with a skate hall) or maybe venues that are a bit of a drive out (we looked at a lot cabin venue that was a 15 min drive from our ceremony). As for alcohol, compare prices if you can bring in your own.

Yeah probably possible if you do something more casual. Party trays, finger foods, salad bar! It actually can be really nice if you set it up nicely.

Thanks everyone sounds like the best option to start with will be to cut the guest list down

We are only inviting 48 guest and ours is probably going to be 3000. May I also add, we are doing everything to cut cost. Just food alone is already 1300.

With that budget, you'd only be allotting $20 per person. I would cut the guest list down. You could maybe do $2k for 100 guests if you stick to hors d'oeuvre/beverages/alcohol/cake. Or, if you have a local restaurant you like or something, you might be able to get them to cater some family-style dishes if you have a more informal reception. Wedding cakes can get pricey, but you could ask for help from family for that, do pies or other desserts, buy from a grocery store of Costco, etc. If you're having alcohol, that's where it will get the most tricky. Even sticking to beer/wine that's a lot of people and will eat up a lot of your budget.

Depending on where you are, that could be a hard no. Otherwise it is going to be very difficult. Maybe try looking into doing a simple afternoon tea as a reception, which could drastically save money and would be elegant and unique at the same time. You could also ask for family to help with the food, like a pot luck. But before you do any more planning, you should decide what is the most important thing to you and your fiancé. Is it the guest list or the food or the decorations or what? That will help guide you on where to and what to spend your money on.

Maybe just grocery store platters of sandwiches, cake & punch?

So you definitely can if you are not too fussy about little details. It'll probably have to be dry or BYOB because alcohol will run you a few hundred minimum. Look into places like local VFWs and Camp Dining Halls will get you the best rate on a venue. Go simple on decorations and reuse decorations you have in your home already and any decorations you already got for the ceremony. Get a sound system and self DJ. Buy a normal cake at a grocery bakery.
